The Smart Teens Empowered to Prevent Situations (S.T.E.P.S.) Programme, held at the Seventh Day Adventist SVG Mission on June 24th–25th, 2026, was a resounding success.

Through interactive sessions and guidance, young people gained valuable knowledge about love, boundaries, respect, peer pressure, and selflove, equipping them to make safe and responsible choices as they step into the new school year.

The Royal Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force's Sexual Offences Unit, Launches S.T.E.P.S. Initiative to Protect and Empower Youth

June 11, 2026 – Kingstown: The Sexual Offences Unit of the Royal Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force has launched the S.T.E.P.S. Initiative: Smart Teens Empowered to Prevent Situations, a pilot programme aimed at protecting, educating, and empowering young students as they prepare to transition into secondary school.

The initiative forms part of the Unit’s ongoing mandate to raise awareness about sexual violence, child protection, personal safety, and responsible decision-making. It is designed to give Grade Six students age-appropriate guidance to help them understand peer pressure, personal boundaries, healthy relationships, respect for self and others, and the importance of seeking help from trusted adults.

Through the S.T.E.P.S. sessions, students will be encouraged to:

Understand the difference between attraction, pressure, and readiness.

Recognize peer pressure, grooming, manipulation, and unsafe situations.

Learn the importance of personal boundaries and mutual respect.
Build the confidence to say no and seek help when needed.

Understand that harmful choices can have serious emotional, social, and legal consequences.

Make safer, more responsible decisions as they enter adolescence.

The Sexual Offences Unit has noted concerns involving young students across the country and views early education as an important preventative tool. The S.T.E.P.S. Initiative is therefore a proactive effort to equip children with knowledge, confidence, and support before they are placed in situations they may not fully understand or be prepared to handle.

The pilot programme will be conducted with Grade Six students of the Kingstown Preparatory School on June 24 and 25, 2026. This pilot marks the beginning of a broader effort to strengthen child protection education across Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
