Volcanic Eruption Emergency Project - VEEP
VEEP supports reconstruction & delivery of critical services after the April 2021 volcanic eruptions. The estimated date of completion is 30 December 2026.
The Volcanic Eruption Emergency Project (VEEP) is a three-component project that seeks to provide short-term income support to Vincentians who were negatively impacted by the 2021 eruptions of the La Soufriere volcano. It also aims to repair and improve critical services, and strengthen the Government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines’ capacity to prepare for and respond to national emergencies.

On April 22-23, 2026, seven (7) Schools, including one hundred and fifty (150) primary and secondary students from the North Leeward area participated in a two-day Career Fair and Exhibition at the newly reopened Belmont Volcano Observatory. This included a tour of the Belmont Observatory, an interactive exhibition of the evolution of volcano monitoring, career opportunities in volcano monitoring and disaster management, and the science behind the La Soufriere volcano.
The schools hosted were;
• Spring Village Methodist School
• Westwood Methodist School
• Fitz Hughes Government School
• Chateaubelair Methodist School
• Troumaca Government School
• Rose Hall Government School
• Troumaca Ontario Secondary School
• Petit Bo**el Secondary School
Volcano Awareness Month is observed every April and forms part of the Geo hazard public education activities within the National Programme of NEMO SVG. Most major historic effusive and explosive eruptions of La Soufriere Volcano have occurred in the months of April and May, making the month an apt period to remember, educate and gather knowledge around and about our Volcano.

From income support and employment opportunities to infrastructure upgrades, seismic monitoring, and agricultural development — VEEP is actively rebuilding communities and strengthening national systems.
