Professional Kitesurfer - Photographer and Film Maker Living on a small Caribbean Island 🏝

When sails down from Martinique with his Evo kite and try to take over my home spot.

We took the opportunity to make a quick .kiteboarding Evo vs Rebel explanation video. No young pro kiters was hurt during the making of this kite review.

Regular, SLS, or D/LAB: the DNA stays the same. Each step up in construction significantly pushes forward what already makes these kites special, making their key characteristics sharper, lighter, faster, and more responsive, especially for more advanced riders or anyone looking for higher performance.

The Evo was my first love when I started riding Duotone kites. It is the best all-around kite and the one most riders should use. I use the Dlab or SLS Evo for myself, but we also use the regular version at the JT Pro Center kite school for rentals and lessons and everyone love them. It jumps amazingly well, has great lift, loops well, and relaunches much better than the Rebel. It is also the better all-around kite, as it can handle every other aspect of kiteboarding well and is a more playful kite by the way it turns and fly.

The Rebel, however, with its additional struts can handle extreme winds better and has better hang time than the Evo And more stability. The trade-off is relaunch and versatility in other kite disciplines, like casual unhooking or waves. The smaller Rebel feel very stable for strong winds, you almost feel like it’s so gentle and not wild flying that it wouldn’t loop as well and then you try the loop and the magic happens, it loops crazy well.

Basically, if you are still crashing your kite a lot, whether you are an intermediate rider or a very good rider working on new tricks, I would 100% recommend the Evo over the Rebel. It gives you a more versatile, all-around kite with pro level performances for the Dlab or SLS.

Now, if hang time is super important to you, and stability in strong, gusty winds is what you are looking for, and you already have a more advanced level for big air and high, long jumps, the Rebel can be your final pick.

What’s your pick ?

The new Evo SLS is the advanced and most fun version of .kiteboarding Evo. I like to say if you don’t know which kite to choose from the Duotone Kiteboarding range you just pick the EVO !

It’s been a long journey. These are some of the key moments of how I got into kitesurfing and a few of the things that marked my kitesurfing journey.

That last hurricane definitely took a toll on the whole story. When everything is at the top, it’s hard getting thrown back to the bottom and seeing some sponsors or investors not supporting you and instead using it as an opportunity to make extra $$. It’s a rough world out there. At least I’m glad .kiteboarding is still fully supportive!

Spending the first few months only helping the island took a big toll on me. I lost my kite center and my home in the process, had no insurance due to some valid reasons, and received zero help from the government (which I didn’t try to get). But when everything is over, that’s when you truly see who your real friends are and who is trying to take advantage of the situation, with people trying to get richer from it or even trying to steal our position or our business.

It’s been a tough time, but it also taught me a lot about people and about myself.

At the same time, we’ve started finding new ways to keep sharing the dream. The new villa project on Union Island has actually been a success this season, and it’s been amazing seeing guests still coming back to support us and the island despite everything that happened.

We are still waiting for the new investors and landowners from the old kite center location to allow us to rebuild properly and hopefully bring the JT Pro Center back to what it once was, and even better.

Not all is lost. We are slowly rebuilding, adapting, and moving forward again.
