Segment Anything with
Today we introduce the public beta release of the “Segment Anything Model” featured in Mapflow.
In April 2023 Meta AI introduced the open model which was claimed to be foundational to identifying any objects in any image. While the large language models are considered to be game changers in generative AI, the SAM is here to present a base model for doing a good number of applications of visual object recognition with real-time prompting.
While studying and being inspired by some of these open-source repos we found out that it’s worth implementing SAM into our platform while adjusting it to the geospatial imagery processing workflows on a large scale.

Announcement! We are moving all our applications to the credit based billing.
You may have noticed that the Mapflow credits which can be bought online and used in web version of the platform, are not applicable to Mapflow QGIS and API, where we measure processing in square kilometers and need to transfer credits to area manually.
To make it consistent and more flexible we have united the billing system for Web and QGIS / API moving to credits for all our users (except for selected commercial clients who are specifically assigned to area-based billing). This means the following:
☑️ your credits will be visible in Mapflow QGIS and will be spent on processing
☑️ you will see the actual cost of the processing in the plugin before the launch of the processing
☑️ cost calculation breakdown documentation is updated at https://docs.mapflow.ai/userguides/prices.html
☑️ “Free” starter square kilometers in Mapflow QGIS will be discarded in favor of credits that are on you account, but if you have purchased a processing area for API/QGIS in square km, they will be converted back to credits
❗️ You should upgrade to Mapflow-QGIS 2.0.0, older versions are not compatible with the new API.
One of the main advantages of the integrated billing is that from now on you will be able to spend your credits for the processing of commercial satellite imagery starting from the minimum package of $50. (See more in docs about calculation of data prices)
This is yet a long way to get to the full integration of the web- and gis- UX, as currently model options selection is not available in QGIS but in web, and some of the models are web-only or QGIS-only, so we are working on it to make your experience with the Mapflow platform even more seamless.
This change will take effect today, 22 June 2023, 22-24 GMT. If you have any questions or problems, feel free to contact our support ([email protected]) at any time.
Mapflow pricing — Mapflow documentation In order to top up you balance with more credits go to your Mapflow profile and choose one of the options. You will be asked to pay online.

We showcase Geoalert solution for 🌿 Vegetation management 🌿 near power transmission lines.
Actually, Earth observation data analysis has become a crucial application to safeguard such assets with remote control. Besides risk management, there is the planning of works and costs beforehand, etc. (You can ask ChatGPT to generate more reasons why you need it, but we suppose you know your pain better).
While Lidar / aerial survey provides top-notch data it might be expensive when it comes to extensive power line networks, where monitoring vegetation risks across vast territories is a constant demand.
👉 Mapflow AI model is super cost-effective as it is trained on lidar data to perform on mono satellite imagery with an accuracy of F1 0.6–0.8 depending on the vegetation class. Satellite datastreaming makes it possible to enable instant access to global providers with automatic processing (e.g. Maxar SecureWatch). You can either use your own UAV / Satellite images / TMS to get them securely connected to our AI platform.
If you are related to utility assets management / risk control, etc. we would love to hear from you and to set up an evaluation account. As a test of our technology data analysts can get started with the free Mapflow plugin for QGIS and default 🌲 Forest and 🌲↕️ Forest with heights AI models.

A new version 2.0.0 is just released! 🎉
You may notice some improvements in the plugin's UI and a more compact window. But why change the major version?
The reason is - there are API changes that will require the new version: Integrated Billing based on credits.
Both of our mainly used applications Mapflow Web and Mapflow Plugin will have billing in credits (virtual coins to pay for the processing or for the use of commercial imagery). That brings a better experience to our pay-as-you-go customers, who pay online, as the additional credits will be available in the QGIS plugin moments after payment.
And yet there is some time for you who already use the plugin to update before we switch the billing type to the credits, so this is a bit of a teaser for what is coming soon!

You never know what you will find in some user images 😳 (sharing here with the user's permission).
BTW can you guess what kind of animals are there and where this image was captured?
And here is some teaser of what we working on now as we are looking forward to covering more specific cases like this. If you didn't find the solution for your case with the default AI models in Mapflow, maybe it will be solved in the upcoming release. Comment on this post and we will include you in beta-testing with enough of a free limit!

Mapflow – QGIS 1.8.0 released (https://plugins.qgis.org/plugins/mapflow/version/1.8.0/). 🎉
Upgrade to the newest version if you already use this plugin.
What's new?
* Updated UI. We added a sidebar which makes it easier to set up processing. Yes, we know it would be better to dock this widget in QGIS - looking forward to enabling it soon
* "Rate processing" function - the same as in the Web Ui. Will make user feedback more consistent.
* We removed "Sentinel Fields" model as it was too experimental and provided unstable results. Please apply to us if you need this or some custom models with Mapflow
* Some minor improvements with user data validation
* Enabled zoom to raster XYZ layer given its AOI extent
* Enabled necessary features to work under team accounts (Are you using Mapflow for your professional work? Maybe it's time to contact us and request to create an account for your organization 😉)
👉 We encourage you to join our open-source repo on Github (https://github.com/Geoalert/mapflow-qgis).

Towards the global Buildings model!
You may have noticed that our models perform differently in different regions. The reason is that land cover and urban patterns are so different on our Earth that no existing model can comprehend them all.
Today we step forward in our Buildings model development, introducing our new region-specific model selection! When you launch the processing, the actual regional model is selected based on your area of interest.
Currently, there are 3 global regions and 3 corresponding Building segmentation models, which will be further improved.
All models are now acting as a single 🏠 Buildings model at both web and QGIS. Try to reprocess your area if you weren't satisfied with the results and don't forget to send us your feedback from ⭐️ to ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
And if you need to customize the model further to even better meet your requirements, contact us at [email protected] for a demo or a custom plan (https://mapflow.ai/pricing)

🏡 Data + Citizen = Smart City
Every day our Mapflow AI-Mapping Platform is used to extract urban features from satellite or aerial imagery. There are many uses for these data in city management, yet, every city - this is about people, this is about citizens.
We, at Geoalert, are involved in different urban projects and try to inspire people to explore the places where they live. It’s really important to have digital tools that help us to collect citizens’ requests and ideas, organize voting and discussion around city development issues.
🗺 One of such tools provides our partner - an emerging startup - Urbanpinion from Estonia. It's a citizen engagement platform that lets you create a landing page with an interactive map in just a few steps. Now you have all info about your project or city neatly organized and can launch a survey or idea portal - collect citizens ideas and votes - and of course, get the basic analytics of all collected ideas.
How does it work? It's simple:
- give the project name
- choose the type of the project
- customize the map
- select the categories of Marks and Routes
- customize logo, description, images, contacts and background in the Editor
It takes just 15 minutes, no extra knowledge or downloadings required. Post the link to your landing page and get useful ideas from your neighbors and other citizens.
🏢 🏗 🚌 So, for whom is Urbanpinion? For people ready to develop their city in the right way - for urban activists, architects, property management companies, real estate companies, ecologists, city administration, transport companies. And Urbanpinion is so much more - it’s not only for participative budgeting or participative design - museums and shopping malls can use it to discuss it’s spaces with visitors, scientists can use it to monitor nature. And so much more…
🌍 It’s really important that with Urbanpinion you can:
- identify problem areas of the territory, as well as the needs of citizens;
- collect ideas for the development of the urban environment or any space;
- organize voting for certain objects, put high-quality analytics into the project, prioritize the budget, discuss masterplan, etc.
Also, Urbanpinion provides additional services - online and offline promotion of the survey or idea portal, moderate comments or ideas, design of promotion materials to involve residents in the project.
Right now Urbanpinion is open to collaborations and invites everyone to try to use the product. You can already register and start using it on app.urbanpinion.com, the instruction is inside the platform.
📣 GeoAlert launches the Urban Data Program for Urbanpinion users, providing urban researchers or municipality government extra access to the Mapflow Platform and supporting them with our knowledge and expertise. Please, contact us for detailed info.

We love Uzbekistan for its people and trees so we decided to support projects for social impact.
To this end we launched call to projects for Uzbekistan https://geoalert.io/projects
We are looking forward to supporting developers – how to create maps, tell stories with maps and sometimes even get insights about what is going around in the urban and natural environment.
Within this initiative, we've already started publishing open data and working with teams.
The initiative is supported by our friends from Gisgeo.org (https://gisgeo.org/katalog/proekty/) where you can find the description in Russian.
