We are thrilled to announce the hiring of power soccer athlete and engineer, Riley Johnson, who has joined us as Design Engineer and Community Lead here at Power Soccer Shop.
In his 22 years (and counting!) of playing power soccer, Riley has led the National Team as co-captain, helped USPSA develop new teams as Eastern Regional Director, organized and instructed numerous soccer camps, trained teams on the side, and brought power soccer to the TEDx stage. Most recently, he helped establish the Drew Cunningham Mentorship Program, created in effort to support high potential, young athletes on their path to the National Team.
A mechanical engineering graduate from the University of Minnesota, Riley has 7 years of engineering experience. He most recently spent 4 years as a Design Engineer at Park Industries, designing industry leading stone cutting machines. So you could say Riley is no stranger to developing the latest cutting-edge technology (He said that. He said those words. And he was adamant about including that verbatim).
As Design Engineer and Community Lead, Riley will:
● Design and engineer the latest power soccer products.
● Manage Research and Development projects and oversee prototype testing.
● Organize clinics to establish new teams, train existing teams and athletes, and develop training resources and marketing content to accelerate the sport’s development .
Johnson said “It’s a great privilege and honor to serve this community I love, in this fashion. And it’s the community I’ll lean on to help shape the future of this great sport.”
He’s already begun his work to leverage input from the community, making preparations for attending Virginia’s Mule Cup later this week, where 10 teams in the Eastern Region will be competing. This initiative will help drive Power Soccer Shop’s Product Roadmap and Marketing Goals for 2026 and beyond.
His unique experience in both engineering and soccer as well as his passion and commitment to grow the sport, aligns with Power Soccer Shop’s mission to introduce more athletes to soccer, develop technology to match the ever growing demands of the sport, and above all, empower disability through sport and community.
