Bringing science to life across East Baton Rouge Parish! 🌋🌊

Our Executive Director, Eric Lewis, recently visited the amazing campers at BREC’s Baker Recreation Center and Anna T. Jordan Park for a high-energy, hands-on STEM demonstrations all about Underwater Volcanoes!

This summer marks the 4th year of our incredible partnership with BREC. Together, we are on a mission to bring exciting STEM demonstrations to camp sites across the parish, exposing nearly 500 youth to fascinating scientific phenomena. By turning local gymnasiums and pavilions into interactive science labs, we are showing our kids that the world of STEM is theirs to explore.

Huge thanks to the staff and campers at Baker and Anna T. Jordan Parks for your amazing energy and curiosity! 💚🚀

From tiny seeds to a thriving community! 🌱

Our summer camp participants had an incredible time diving into our “Grow Your Own Food” workshop in partnership with our long-time friends at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Louisiana.

The students rolled up their sleeves to learn the science of germination, planting seeds that they will nurture and eventually donate to the community garden at Howell Park! To wrap up a fantastic day of hands-on learning, we took a tour of the garden to see firsthand how local agriculture brings people together and feeds the community.

We are so proud of these young leaders and future agricultural scientists for giving back and learning how to sustain our roots! 🥬🍉

Teaching computers how to see, one fruit at a time! 🍊🤖💻

BRSTEM had an incredible day back at the Carl Slaughter Exploration Camp for our 2nd annual partnership with Councilman Anthony Kenney and the Jewel J. Newman Community Center!

Campers tackled some major high-level tech concepts, exploring how machine language and facial recognition work. They built custom AI models from scratch to train computers to identify three different types of fruit, then applied those skills to code their own facial recognition games in Scratch! 🧠🕹️

The energy, logic, and creativity in the room was unmatched. The future of tech is safe in these kids’ hands! 👀👇

Cultivating the future, one robot and one compost bin at a time! 📈🌱🤖

For Fun Friday, our incredible campers dug into the science of decomposition, discovering how nature recycles itself to grow fresh food. 🌍 Then, they put their coding and mechanical skills to the test with our end-of-the-week robotics competitions! 🕹️🏆

Whether it’s steering a rover or nourishing the earth, these kids are proving they have the vision, the passion, and the tools to change the world.

When you give youth the tools to build, they will always amaze you. Our 2026 BRSTEM Fellows Summer Intensive cohort is officially locked in, collaborating, and bringing their ideas to life.

We are filled with gratitude for the parents who trust us with their children’s growth, and the community leaders who worked tirelessly to help us spread the word about this summer’s programming. Because of you, these students are spending their summer leveling up.

Exposing our youth to STEM isn’t just about the projects they build today—it’s about the mindset they carry into tomorrow.

Help us sustain and expand this vital work.
