The official page of Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 122. In December 2016, VMFA-122 officially became known as “The Flying Leathernecks”.

Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 122 (VMFA-122) is a United States Marine Corps F-35 squadron. The squadron is based out of Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, AZand fall under the command of Marine Aircraft Group 13 (MAG-13) and the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing (3rd MAW). Their traditional call sign is "Nikel". In Oct 2017, VMFA-122 opened a new chapter of their history, transitioning into an F-35 “Lightning” Squadron stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma.

MARINE CORPS AIR STATION YUMA, Ariz. (March 31, 2019) – Two Marine pilots were killed as a result of an AH-1Z Viper helicopter crash in the vicinity of Yuma, Arizona, at approximately 8:45 p.m. (PST), March 30, 2019.

Both pilots were conducting a routine training mission as part of the Weapons and Tactics Instructor (WTI) course 2-19.

The cause of the crash is currently under investigation.

The names of the deceased will be withheld until 24 hours after next-of-kin notification.
