Sycamore Fire Evening Update

Containment: 0%

Hotter and drier weather across the fire today contributed to an increase in fire behavior. The fire made a significant wind driven push to the north in the afternoon. Additional engines and crews have been ordered to support direct extinguishment and indirect confinement suppression efforts.

Just an FYI...we do have smoke from the Sycamore Fire coming into view. Our wind direction shifted slightly.

This is a 3,300 acre Type 3 fire, approximately 25 miles south of Young.

This fire started four days ago.

Outside of a slight chance for showers over the White Mountains this afternoon, dry conditions will return this weekend. Expect mostly clear skies, near-normal June temperatures, and breezy southwest/west winds each day.

One more day of showers and thunderstorms before dry air arrives. Areas along and south of the Mogollon Rim will have the best chance for any activity today.

Warm to hot temperatures will continue through the week, with a brief cool down over the weekend. Isolated chances for showers and thunderstorms along and south of the Mogollon Rim and near the White Mountains through Thursday. Breezy west to southwest winds are expected through Saturday, becoming lighter into next week.
