On this date in 1832, the Pennsylvania Legislature issued a charter to establish a railroad in the quaint town of Strasburg, PA. Today, 194 years later, historic steam locomotives continue to roll down those same tracks, making the Strasburg Rail Road the oldest continuously operating railroad in North America — and the most-visited heritage railway in the continental U.S.!

The historic coast-to-coast tour celebrating America’s 250th anniversary is rolling across the NS network now! 🚂 🇺🇸

Before Union Pacific Railroad's Big Boy arrives in your town, remember these 5️⃣ safety tips:

1️⃣ Stay back at least 25 FEET from all railroad tracks. This includes drones.

2️⃣ No trespassing: railroad tracks, trestles, yards and right of way are private property.

3️⃣ ALWAYS expect a train. Never assume tracks are abandoned or inactive.

4️⃣ Do not pace the train.

5️⃣ At each stop: Be aware of the environment at all times. While we are committed to providing access to all guests, Big Boy is positioned in a working rail environment. Uneven walking surfaces may be present and could pose accessibility challenges. Public access is limited to posted event hours and approved viewing locations. Visitors must wear closed-toe shoes.

As always, steam and safety go hand-in-hand! We look forward to *safely* celebrating America’s 250 with you.
