Today marks the 21st day of 2023.

I remember hearing that 21 days
of consistent action can form habits.

So far in 2023 I have been:

• Eating healthier
• Exercising frequently
• Reading my Bible daily

These personal actions have already helped me:

• Lose a few pounds
• Gain knowledge
• Grow confidence

What habits are you forming in 2023?

When we wake up tomorrow, 2022 will be upon us. You have probably seen countless articles from experts on how to make an impact in the new year and how to be a better you if you just follow these simple steps. I’m no expert, but this is what I propose to you: treat each day with purpose. A new year does not signify a “new you.” While the new year can be a good time to begin fostering new habits (and even some that stick), any day of the year can be the best day to start. We have to make the decision to start today.

Isaiah 43:19 says “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” Right before that, we are told to forget the former things and not to dwell on the past. The past two years have been so hard on so many of us. But there is hope, and change is possible. I pray that the new year brings blessings your way and an intentional willingness to adapt and impact the world for the better starting with small changes that you alone can make. It starts today.

John 1:4. This time of year, we think specifically about the light of the star that led the shepherds to Jesus. Whenever we think of light, it is hard to think of evil. In this advent season, we anticipate the coming of the light of the world. May He shine bright in your life this advent season and fill you with wonder and excitement for what’s to come. This is something we should never grow out of regardless of how old we get.
