๐๐ Happy Father's Day & Happy Men's Health Month! ๐๐
Today, we celebrate the dads, grandfathers, stepdads, mentors, coaches, and father figures who make a difference in our lives every day.
Tip of the Day from the DCHD!
As we honor the men who help keep our families strong, it's also a great reminder to focus on their health and well-being. Men's Health Month encourages men to take simple steps that can have a big impact:
โ
Schedule annual checkups and recommended screenings
โ
Stay active and make time for exercise
โ
Eat a balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables
โ
Prioritize sleep and stress management
โ
Talk openly about physical and mental health
The best gift you can give your loved ones is taking care of yourself.
To all the dads and father figures in our community, thank you for your guidance, support, and love. Wishing you a healthy, happy Father's Day!

Today, we commemorate Juneteenth, a day that marks the end of slavery in the United States and celebrates freedom, resilience, and the enduring strength of Black communities.
Juneteenth is an opportunity to reflect on our shared history, honor those who fought for freedom and equality, and recognize the ongoing work to build healthier, stronger, and more equitable communities for all.

๐ฟ Leaves of three? Let them be!
Tip of the Day from the DCHD!
Poison ivy, poison oak, and poison sumac may look different, but they all contain urushiol, an oily substance that can cause an intensely itchy rash.
Here's a quick guide:
๐ Poison Ivy
"Leaves of three" with pointed leaflets. Grows as a vine or shrub.
๐ Poison Oak
Also has three leaves, but they're fuzzy and resemble oak leaves.
๐ฑ Poison Sumac
A tall shrub or small tree with 7โ13 leaflets arranged in pairs. Found in wet, swampy areas.
โ ๏ธ If exposed:
โ
Wash skin immediately with soap and water.
โ
Wash clothing, shoes, and gear that may have touched the plant.
โ
Use calamine lotion, hydrocortisone cream, or oatmeal baths to help relieve itching.
๐ Contact a healthcare provider if the rash is widespread, affects your face or sensitive areas, or if you develop swelling, fever, or trouble breathing.
Whether you're hiking, gardening, or cheering on your favorite team outdoors this summer, knowing what to look for can help keep the itch away!

๐ A mammogram can save your life.
The Delaware County Health Department and the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Jefferson held free mammogram screenings today at the DCHD Wellness Center in Chester.
Tip of the Day from the DCHD!
Mammograms are the best tool we have to find breast cancer early, when treatment is often most effective. If itโs time for your screening, a little preparation can make the experience easier:
โ Wear a two-piece outfit
โ Skip deodorant, lotion, or powder on exam day
โ Plan for about 20 minutes
โ Be sure to follow up if you donโt receive results within 10 days
Most importantly, talk with your healthcare provider about when you should start getting mammograms and how often you should be screened.
Early detection matters. ๐
If you would like to join our wait list for a future screening please call the Wellness Line at 484-276-2100.

HOT OR ICED?
Not just for coffee.
If arthritis is making your joints ache, temperature can be your friend.
Tip of the Day from the DCHD!
Feel Better. Move Easier. ๐
๐ฅ Warm baths or heating pads may help loosen stiff joints and improve flexibility.
๐ง Ice packs can help reduce swelling and ease pain during flare-ups.
The best choice often depends on how you're feeling today. Heat for stiffness. Ice for swelling.
Small changes can bring big relief. ๐

๐ Stop Storing Your Meds Here!๐
Tip of the Day from the DCHD!
๐ซ Think twice before using your bathroom medicine cabinet.
The intense humidity and heat from your shower can quickly ruin your medications. Moisture and temperature shifts cause pills and capsules to break down, lose their strength, or expire way too early.
Instead, keep your prescriptions safe and effective by following these quick tips:
๐ Pick the right spot: Store them in a cool, dry place like a bedroom dresser drawer, a closet, or a kitchen cabinet far away from the stove and sink.
๐ก๏ธ Watch the temperature: Aim for a stable room temperature between 68ยฐF and 77ยฐF.
๐ Avoid the car: Never leave your medicine in a glove box or trunk. Extreme vehicle heat can permanently damage the chemical breakdown of your drugs.

Keep Calm & Kick On
Tip of the Day from the DCHD!
With international soccer action kicking off in Philadelphia this weekend, emotions are about to run high. Whether you're cheering for your home country, your favorite team, or just love the game, those nail-biting moments can actually cause your heart rate and stress levels to rise.
๐ฎโ๐จ During tense moments, try taking a few slow, deep breaths.
๐ถโโ๏ธ If the match gets too intense, step away from the screen for 5 minutes and reset.
๐ง Stay hydrated, especially if you're watching outdoors in the summer heat.
