Many business owners hear that an S-Corp can save taxes, but the reality is more nuanced.

An S-Corp is not a different type of business entity. It’s a tax election that may provide benefits in certain situations, but it also comes with additional compliance requirements, payroll obligations, and administrative costs.

One of the most common misconceptions we see is business owners electing S-Corp status without fully understanding the ongoing responsibilities that come with it.

Before making the election, it’s important to consider:
• Profitability
• Reasonable compensation
• Administrative costs
• Long-term business goals

The right choice depends on your specific circumstances.

If you’re self-employed, your retirement plan can also become one of your most important tax planning tools.

Many business owners automatically open a SEP IRA without realizing that a Solo 401(k) may provide greater flexibility and potentially higher contribution opportunities at certain income levels.

The right strategy depends on several factors, including:
• business structure
• income level
• payroll setup
• long-term goals
• whether Roth contributions make sense for you

With several SECURE 2.0 retirement plan changes taking effect in 2026, proactive planning has become even more important for many business owners.

Retirement planning is not one-size-fits-all, and the best option is not always the most commonly used one.

Tax season 2025, officially behind us.

Now that things have settled after the April 15th deadline, taking a moment to reflect.

Grateful for every client who trusted us this year. Whether it was a simple return or a more complex situation, we truly appreciate it.

As things slow down, our focus shifts to what matters even more:
• Tax planning for 2026
• Helping business owners stay organized year-round
• Providing support beyond filing season

If this past season felt stressful or last-minute, it doesn’t have to be that way next year.

Thinking about filing an extension?

Filing an extension does not indicate a problem with your return. It simply allows additional time to file accurately and completely.

Extensions are commonly used, especially when returns involve multiple income sources or pending documents.

Keep in mind, an extension applies to filing, not payment. Any tax due should still be paid by the original deadline.

Accurate filing takes priority.

Currently accepting a limited number of extension clients.

Reminder for business owners:

The filing deadline for S-Corporations (Form 1120-S) and Partnerships / Multi-Member LLCs (Form 1065) is March 15.

If your return is not ready, an extension must be filed by the deadline to avoid penalties.

Single-member LLCs filing Schedule C follow the individual tax deadline.

March is when many business owners discover what the year actually cost them.

By the time we’re preparing the return, the strategy window has already closed.

Tax preparation looks backward.
Tax planning looks forward.

If you’re asking:

• Why do I owe this much?
• Should I change my entity?
• Am I handling estimates correctly?

Those are planning conversations.

If this year felt reactive, let’s make next year proactive.
