Had a blast with DD Hockey boys playing in a men’s league hockey tournament in Montreal this weekend. The Canadian teams were definitely “elbows up” and real good players on the ice but lots of fun to hang out with afterwards. This team even had team sweatsuits. 🇺🇸🇨🇦

This is good for Massachusetts school aged children in both our public and private schools as well as for educationally focused non-profits. Moreover, since Massachusetts residents and corporations pay more in taxes to the federal government than we receive back we should be proactive and unapologetic in bringing money back to the Commonwealth for worthy causes and projects. Educational achievement, jobs and a strong economy should be our focus. This federal initiative helps with all three.
Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce Urges State to Opt-In to Federal Scholarship Tax Credit, Highlighting Massive Benefits for Local Non-Profits and Educational Institutions
WORCESTER, MA - The Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce is calling on state leaders, including Governor Healey, to opt Massachusetts into the recently enacted Federal Scholarship Tax Credit program. This initiative, passed as part of the H.R.1: An act to provide for reconciliation pursuant to title II of H. Con. Res. 14., allows taxpayers to contribute up to $1,700 to a nonprofit scholarship-granting organization in exchange for a full tax credit. By participating, Massachusetts stands to bring back hundreds of millions of dollars to support our state’s educational institutions and crucial non-profit organizations.

As March comes to a close I wanted to share my favorite picture of the month. My Aunt Vera with the McInerney Dancers. For 29 years my family has hosted a post parade party following the Worcester St. Patrick’s Day Parade. In addition to the camaraderie and Irish music the McInerney Irish Step Dancers performance is a special part of the day. My mother Cathy and her sister Vera were championship Irish step dancers in the 1950’s competing throughout New England. They would often watch the dancers and share stories of their step dancing travels and competitions. These memories gave all in our family insight into their experiences growing up in Worcester during that era and being the children of immigrants. Lessons and experiences we will not forget and while today’s immigrants may be from different countries and have different last names the vast majority come to the United States for the same reasons. The freedom to work hard and take care of their families so that their children will have something better. The American Dream !🇺🇸

Enjoyed interviewing my City Council colleague Joff Smith during my time as Mayor. In addition to his financial advisory business he has launched a new business to help companies and their employees understand their benefit options using technology and artificial intelligence. An interesting interview.
On this episode of Chamber Exchange the TV Show we welcome Joff Smith, CEO of Concordia Exchange! Check out his full interview here: https://zurl.co/7mj0k
