She may look deep in thought, but she’s simply taking it all in. Grateful, honored, maybe a little coy — but fully present in the moment. Draped in her favorite colors, she stands confidently and quietly, ready to show Worcester exactly who she is.

Artist: Bridie Wolejko 🎷

Located at Chandler Street & Queen Street, this mural honors Worcester jazz legend Mr. Byard (1922–1999), a celebrated musician known for his incredible talent and larger-than-life personality.

As a young boy, Byard would walk to Lake Quinsigamond to hear local bands perform. He first learned jazz piano before later mastering the tenor saxophone — often playing multiple instruments at once.

Though his life was tragically cut short in Queens, NY, his legacy continues to live on through his music, humor, and the stories shared by friends and family throughout Worcester.
