Worcester Community Action Council's (WCAC) mission: helping people move to economic self-sufficiency
WCAC has an experienced history of providing education, employment, energy and asset developoment programs to assist those in the transition from poverty to self-sufficiency. Programs are primarily provided to low-income residents of Worcester and its surrounding towns with the goal of increasing the standard of living and creating opportunities for economic mobility beginning with basic needs, in
"It meant the world to me knowing that there's people who are here to back me." π
For many young people, that support can change everything.
Through WCAC's Job & Education Center, youth gain work experience, build confidence, develop new skills, and discover opportunities they may never have imagined for themselves. Most importantly, they learn that they don't have to navigate their future alone.

π Up, Up, and Away β Our Future is Bright! π
We recently celebrated Certificate Day with our WCAC Head Start Home-Based families, honoring a year of growth, milestones, and learning. Our little learners continue to amaze us as they build confidence and skills alongside their families who are their first and most important teachers.
Through weekly home visits and monthly socializations, our Home-Based program supports expectant parents and families with children birth to age 3 across Southern Worcester County, meeting families where they are and helping children soar.

β¨ Taking it back to one month ago at our Annual Resiliency Awards! π
What an incredible morning celebrating the people and organizations who make our community stronger every single day. From our dedicated WCAC team to our outstanding award recipients β United Way of Central Massachusetts, United Way of South Central MA, Ricema, the Center for Health Impact, Nicole Amoako-Atta, and Congressman Jim McGovern β this event was a true reminder of why we do what we do. π
We are so grateful for every person who shows up, cares deeply, and works to make a difference.

Head Start isn't just a preschool β it's a lifeline for the whole family. π
This year, Worcester Community Action Council's center-based Head Start program served 175 children in early education and care, but the impact goes so much further than the classroom.
Through wraparound services, teachers, family advocates, and specialists, we walked alongside families through housing challenges, language barriers, IEP meetings, and so much more. We supported 34 children with IEPs this year, attending evaluations, advocating at meetings, and standing side by side with parents every step of the way.
And then there are moments like this: a little girl who struggled so deeply with confidence that she was diagnosed with selective mutism, who by the end of the year stood up in front of a room full of parents and sang out loud. Her mom was in the crowd in tears. That's Head Start.
Head Start is here for your whole family. π
