Hello Everyone! Just popping in with a "remembrance" ~ A few years ago there was a chat (or something) about the "loss" of all the music on the old "MySpace" app. This was where Matt began to reach out on the internet for the first time, but like many, many others, his page crumbled & died after "Facebook" appeared. A couple of folks were, however, able to use "Way Back Machine" to capture what was there on Sept 13th, 2009. Here for those of you who just "found" Secret Stairways is a blurb written by Matt:

"About Secret Stairways
Secret Stairways is the name of a body of musical work composed by Matthew P Davis (whom is otherwise a founding member of the band Twelfth of Never). The style of music can best be described as New Age/meditative/fantasy, with touches of Celtic and experimental styles....music for the spirit, for the mind, and for quiet times. This self-produced instrumental solo-project was conceived in 1995 with a demo tape of five electronic-based compositions; titled "Drifting...". Another demo tape featuring eight compositions was packaged in 1997, titled "Enchantment of the Ring", and in 1999, a CDR with ten compositions, titled "Turning Point". Song titles have often been inspired by literature and art regarding faerie and fantasy folklore, much of which penned by Brian Froud and JRR Tolkien...with plenty more influence from the surrounding forests and nature of New England. The music of Secret Stairways has been enjoyed by people from all walks of life, from children in day-care, to those of the Pagan/Wiccan persuasion, to goth and metal enthusiasts, and to the elderly. Music for life, and for what follows it as well; Secret Stairways has also been played at two different wakes.
All of the past releases have been on a very limited basis, but now with MySpace, the time had come for a revival, saving the nearly lost compositions and providing them on the internet for the first time. Although Secret Stairways has been publicly inactive for several years, new material has been composed and will be unveiled on the horizon...and the search for label support has begun."

(Remember he wrote this is 2009) ~ He would have been surprised to know that his work is still mentioned and loved by new as well as old fans. As his sister and archivist, I've been attempting to keep his work alive since 2021 when others from the dungeon synth community reached out to me. (Thank you, Dungeons Deep Records, Gondolin Records, https://ancientkingrec.bandcamp.com/ and several others).

Secret Stairways Secret Stairways was the solo instrumental project of Matthew P. Davis (also known for his work with Twelfth of Never, Faces of Bayon, Labyrintheory, Blackened Chapel, and Tears ov Blood). Matthew passed away in 2011. Matt (and many other family & friends) took Mom into their care at the stroke of Midnight 11/21/25. This includes NightShade the cat, Matt's final "familiar". Including "Turning Point" here because Matt wrote it for her.
