UPDATE- credible sources indicate that the Governor will be signing an emergency preamble to Ch. 135 of Acts of 2024 (new gun bill) on Wednesday. The new provisions will become effective immediately (instead of 10/23).

We have also learned that an enforcement notice from the Governor’s Executive Office of Public Safety is expected “any day now”. We expect this notice will set forth the government’s interpretation of the bill and how it will be enforced.

Maryland AWB may be heading for SCOTUS review. The 4th Circuit upheld the ban - which includes an enumerated weapons list and a features test similar to MA - by excluding military type weapons from the 2A.

The plaintiffs filed their petition for cert last week. This case - and other similar lawsuits across the country- are guiding MA 2A attorneys and gun rights groups seeking to challenge provisions of Chapter 135.
