Here's a friendly (there's an animated cat professor presenting, LOL) — though admittedly somewhat complex (e.g., references such as AI Takeoff, a function of 10^36 FLOPS, and the CES Production Function) — reality-based presentation of an analysis of the future evolution of Generative Artificial Intelligence. Two key takeaways from this analysis are: On the one hand, even if we experience a scenario with no breakthrough jumps in the progress of AI evolution, AI could easily race past Human capabilities in just a few years. Also, even if reaching Human capabilities is a more difficult achievement for AI than we expect and AI progress is generally slower than we expect, it's likely that world-changing AI systems are merely a few decades away; and it's very hard to find a realistic set of inputs for this analysis that doesn't get us to AI's ability to perform all Human cognitive tasks by 2060. (Importantly, this does depend on the assumption that it's possible to build superhuman AI with the current LLM-driven paradigm. Notwithstanding, of course, new paradigms may also be developed.)

Who you are (The Mind), What you are, and Who you can be

Please consider for yourself whether you see this as true for you about you in your own life...

*** Who You Are ***

There are features of your brain that combine to express as the most automatic and dumbest aspects of your mind. The ways in which the dumbest aspects of your mind live your life as who you are (while what you are is not paying attention) are:

• You come to believe that you are your understandings, your beliefs, your feelings, and who you think you are

• You crave to be known as you are who you believe you are

• You crave looking good (enough) to others (and so also to yourself)

• You crave approval and agreement and validation

• You crave certainty

• You crave being right

• You presume that everything (that matters to you) can be (over-)simplified enough to be known and understood by you

• You presume that you can know just enough regarding topics to be certain of their scope and importance—so much so that you are blinded to the novelty of how much you don't realize that you don't know about topics

• You have an Always-Already Listening of others and of all information you hear

• and—

—Perhaps, the most insidious automatic responses you have to new information are—

• When how you feel and what you've been suspicious or cynical about seems to be validated regarding "the others" or you feel betrayed by others, first you experience such new information as evidence of your righteousness
• Then next, your sense of righteousness peaks
• and your validation of (and sometimes blinded devotion to) also peaks intensely and dramatically in favor of those who oppose the others whom you are righteously blaming or shaming

• These expressions often lead to your involvement in group-level factions

*** What You Are ***

What you (actually) are:

• Awareness about all that has been described above

• Possibility

• Greatly and utterly ignorant

• Vulnerable

• Choice

• Creativity

• Relatability

*** Who You Can Be ***

You can grant yourself the grace of responsibility for who you are and what you are. You can be the player. You can be the game.

*** So what?! ***

Are you now more empowered? Are you open to deeper discoveries about who and what you are? Who are you now? Who are "they" to you now?

ONE PERSON'S CAREER STORY (And a story of perseverance and personal integrity.) —

It takes a really compelling story or revelation to stop me in my tracks and have me sit down and make the time to share any particular YouTube video. (I watch a lot of YT vids for a lot of professional and entertainment reasons.)

I'll preface my big point by framing my initial interest here to share that I am a bit of a Science buff, but not so much a hardcore Science geek. Though, I've been watching Dr. Sabine H. (the genius scientist and presenter of this video) and other scientists and mathematicians for years slowly gleaning a greater understanding of the nature of Humanity, our world, and our universe to contrast my passions for philosophy, human performance, and coaching—all for my own edification and inspiration.

Then Dr. S.H. publishes *this* talk. Now, I am reminded and yet also with a new shock and acute awareness of so many aspects of our modern culture that continue to be a drag on our species' unique potential for humane and utterly Human advancement: gender bias and discrimination; misappropriated government programs that don't actually empower targeted disenfranchised groups; the ideals of capitalism corrupted by the perversion of its core tenets; the commoditization of knowledge institutions and scientific research; and more. At the moment, yeah, I am more "woke" than ever. So, I am asking myself, "How can I, as a citizen of Humanity, make a difference within the contexts presented here by Dr. S.H.?" Who do I want to be about this? How will I be about this? Then, what is there for me to do about this? I also wonder: And so, what about you too?

What if, other than giving yourself over to the automaticity of the mind as it reels to understand or figure out why or toils to know better, what if rather you notice that futile craving for the illusion of control and you pause and breathe into the moment, be here right now and imagine for yourself, what can I do, how can I be, what is possible, what are my options and how can I proceed? Imagine how much more of your life will now be looking ahead, reaching forward, creating, and doing what you imagine can be achieved.

Chronic Tinnitus: Sure, it's a chronic condition, not fatal. Yet, it can feel so burdensome and miserable and sometimes even psychologically and emotionally debilitating. Not to mention, other people who don't have it really don't understand it or get where you're coming from when you try to impart your experience of it. It can take a lot of exploration, experimenting, and disappointments searching for solutions to deal with it. Though, hang in there, and stay hopeful and optimistic. You *can* find approaches and resources to mitigate the intensity, ease your suffering, and cope. 💙

I'm sharing here a practical practice recommendation (that I recently shared as a comment) to fulfill on a client's social post with a call-to-action for greater human connection...

MY CLIENT'S POST: Let’s all get out of the ineffective world of right and wrong.

Authentic, unconditional love is about validating another’s feelings without expressing your own opinion or judgment for how they are feeling. Everyone craves to be heard and validated! On the flip side, invalidating someone’s feelings quickly creates disconnect.

Authentic love and connection is to acknowledge, inquire, listen, and validate. AND, most importantly, you DO NOT have to be in agreement with their opinion or feelings to acknowledge, inquire, listen, and validate!!

I see so many people collapse the two. Thinking in order to acknowledge, inquire, listen, and validate they have to agree with something or someone.

Instead, they get into reactionary mode, judge, and express the way they think it should be vs actually listening, validating, and inquiring. Or they just avoid and don't interact at all.

Reacting to someone or something is incompatible with authentic connection and love.

Next time someone you love or care about is sharing their feelings with you, instead of expressing your opinion, try something new.

Take a deep breath, stay disciplined, and intentionally inquire, listen, acknowledge, and validate how they are feeling. Nothing more, nothing less.

In my experience, making a practice of this brings a beautiful new level of love and connection not otherwise possible.

MY REPLY & RECOMMENDATION:

I start with: Who do I want to be (with you).

Then: How do I want to be (with you).

Put another way: I start with intentional being here, now. I'm not a reaction to your words or actions. I create my way-of-being with you in real-time.

For example: I am someone who wants to understand and connect. And, I will be this person by listening and watching and asking.
..Nowhere in that did you hear that I am here to judge, debate, fix, or challenge.

Real-time intentional being takes practice, and we're not *wired* for it, so to speak.

Yet, it's a choice, and it's a lifelong practice of which you and I are absolutely capable. ✌🏼💙
