Every figure who has shown the world the way to beauty, to true culture, has been a Rebel.

Glimpses from our Linden project as it hurtles towards completion. It was such a joy to breathe new life in this historic house for repeat clients. Excited for the final steps (and the final cleaning 😅).

A Primary bathroom remodel ✨we took part of the bedroom, closet, and original (petite) bathroom and combined them to achieve a true suite: fit with a grand shower, freestanding tub, double vanity, and linen closet designed to look like a vintage armoire. The pink marble and warm zellige tiles are an office favorite.

Who says a dining room needs to be so serious??

In our Wentworth project, featured in , we tweaked the floor plan to add a scullery by taking a portion of the large dining room and the original closed pantry and merged it into the kitchen space.
Once we established the additional function of having more kitchen prep space, we had fun creating a steel and glass sliding window to connect the space to the main kitchen. While the main space is light and bright, its little sister space is clad it in a beautiful white oak. The layers and details followed.

Let’s get positive for a second! We already shared the things we wanted to hear less of this year, but lets talk about what you should be talking about with your design and contracting team early in the process.
1. Tell us what matters most to you right off the bat. Every single client values things differently. Depending on how you live, how you need your space to function, and just plain old what excites you impacts the pieces of the project which are going to be most important to you. Do not assume what you care about most is universal. Trust us, we see it all and we want to make sure your project is prioritizing what makes you happiest!
2. Put yourself first. We are so often asked, “what will this mean for resale?” or “what are the trends?” If you are undergoing a major project or new build with the intent for your family to enjoy it, then make it about your family. When it comes to long term value, we’ll be sure to raise our hand and point out if we think there is something to consider, but by the time you are looking to sell, the next buyer might be considering their own major renovation. If you are unsure about your own taste, we’ll help you tease out what excites you. It’s part of the fun!
3. Ask what goes into the project documentation and why you need a drawings and schedule package. Once you’ve made your decisions, your design or architecture team translates those selections into schedules and detail drawings. If something is lost in translation, you want to understand that early. It also helps to see just how many decisions and how much work goes into bringing your space to life.
Homeowners - what do you want to talk about more? Designers/GCs/Architects - what did we miss?
I hear a lot of clients express concern when they take a risk in their design —will it be too “trendy”?
But trends tend to have a rise and fall of about 20 years. You just need to be educated on when that image you saw started hitting social media.
And, further, taking a design “risk” will always outlive the thing that you “see happening everywhere”. So paint the walls dark, lean into the wild stone; the layers and details will last beyond two decades. Those “risks” actually have legs. A neutral, safe palette is straight up boring. Safety in design is straight up boring — and boring is what you need to watch out for. Safe, neutral design is what you look to replace in a short time when you realize you should have been bolder. When you realize life is short and design should be fun. 😉 allow your surrounding some fun and enjoy it for years.

Has it really been a year? The Lake Forest Show House opened its doors to the public this time last year and we were blown away by the response to our reception room and the house, in general. The Infant Welfare Society set records for attendance and money raised.
Our modern homage to infamous designer Francis Elkins, was our first foray into doing a show house space (we probably could have picked a smaller room 😅).
I grew up visiting the Lake Forest Show Houses with my mother, and toured many Elkins decorated spaces, so to participate was a true “pinch me” moment. Seeing all the hard work and care that went into making the house a success, deepened my relationship to the event.
None of it is possible without incredible and generous contributions from talented makers, trades, vendors, and showrooms. A design is only as good as the ex*****on and we are so lucky to have a very talented network in our corner.
Cheers to a year and maybe we’ll see you all again this time next year (🫣🫠).
