Warm Modernism that feels like Home. Author of “The Meaningful Modern Home” In each project, we edit our architecture to express what is meaningful.

Our design approach is one that respects the context, and provides a solution that synthesizes the site influences with the client’s goals. Our work does not adhere to a specific style, yet there is a distinctive aesthetic that is consistent in our solutions. We refine each solution until it has clarity to rely on fundamental design principles of proportion, light, balance and materiality.

Finding a place for this piano was one of the design challenges that ultimately became one of my favorite moments in the home. By extending the entry beyond the glass wall of the great room, we created an intimate nook for music—a quiet space that feels both connected to and separate from the larger living areas. I love the dialogue between the piano’s sculptural form and the lake views beyond.

These two images tell another story I love about this project. The first, captured by , shows the space in its completed form. The second was taken by our contractor during a winter punch-list evening. Seeing the same space through different seasons, different light, and even different lenses is a reminder that architecture is never static—it continues to evolve with time, weather, and the lives lived within it.

More than 20 years ago, these mountains taught me an important lesson. Standing in this vast landscape and imagining what a new home could be, I realized that the most meaningful architecture begins with humility. I surrendered myself to the beauty that surrounded me and thought that if I could capture its spirit in a quiet way, the home would remain timeless. Nature would always be there, and I could never hope to compete with its artistry.

The result is a home designed not to dominate the landscape, but to belong to it—framing the Tetons, embracing the changing light, and allowing the extraordinary beauty of Jackson Hole to remain the true focal point.

Sharing some favorite moments from this Lake Michigan home and how it embraces the waterline view from nearly every moment within the home

From reflections moving across the interiors to the constant connection to the water, this project was all about capturing an easy, relaxed summer lifestyle heading into Memorial Day weekend.

Here’s to the beginning of lake season.

We’re so excited to have one of our recent home transformations featured in today’s Winnetka Home Tour!

This project was a complete reimagining of the home, with our focus centered on honoring its unique architectural character and celebrating the incredible golf course views. Rather than changing the spirit of the house, we wanted to reveal and elevate what made it so special — bringing a fresh feel while preserving its timeless beauty.

As we often say, “Some homes are less about changing the house and more about revealing it.”

I would love to see you there today between 9:30 AM–2:30 PM!

The team at Robbins Architecture and Interiors 💛
I feel incredibly honored to work alongside such a talented group—people who approach complex challenges with both creativity and care. Together, we sculpt, refine, question, learn, and laugh.
I’m proud of this collaborative studio we’ve built—one where ego takes a backseat and every design decision is guided by a shared goal: to simply “make it good.” ✨

It begins as a three-dimensional rendering — light, proportion, intention.

And then… it becomes this.

Framing exposed. Windows covered for protection. Mud. Noise. Decisions layered upon decisions.

Bringing a home from concept to reality is rarely polished. It’s long days. Thousands of details. Small edits that matter more than anyone sees. Problem-solving in real time.

But there is quiet joy in the mess.

Standing on site and recognizing the form you once held only in your imagination. Watching lines on paper become walls you can walk through.

And most of all — surrounding yourself with talented people who care as deeply as you do. Sharing a passion. Solving together. Building something that will hold a family’s life.

The polish comes later.
The commitment happens now.
