COVID-19 and Dementia: A Review and Synthesis of Material on a Deadly Combination
Authors: Nasreen Basoudan and Andrea Tales

https://edelweisspublications.com/articles/43/695/covid-19-dementia-review-synthesis-material-deadly-combination

Abstract:
Within modern history, the majority of the worldwide population has not experienced pandemic conditions, and not in recent history has a global pandemic occurred. Arguably therefore we were not prepared for, and did not anticipate, some of its effects, with emerging evidence indicating that this was particularly the case with respect to dementia care. The aim of this paper is to highlight some of the issues raised by COVID-19 surrounding dementia care, focusing on issues experienced both by individuals living with dementia and by those who provide their care. This is in response to the need to raise awareness of this issue and we do so by bringing this information together in order that it might inform policy for ongoing care post-virus and future outbreaks and lockdown situations.

New Article:
Management of Metabolic Acidosis in the Post-Cardiac Surgical Patient
By Jeevan Francis, et al.

Full free Access: http://edelweisspublications.com/articles/37/687/management-metabolic-acidosis-post-cardiac-surgical-patient

Abstract
The base deficit is the best way to evaluate severity of Metabolic Acidosis (MA). It indicates a value corresponding to the number of mmol/L below 24 of the measured bicarbonate concentration. Base deficit between 0 and 5 mmol/L indicates that the patient is not at risk of immediate harm. Arterial blood gases are typically measured every 2-4 hours following cardiac surgery and there is always a trend in base deficit changes to consider. Where the base deficit is diminishing, this indicates that the patient is improving, whereas when it is worsening, the opposite is true. Base deficits between 5 and 10 indicate that a serious problem is present which requires urgent correction. Where the base deficit is greater than 10, cardiac arrest may occur, and such patients require constant supervision by a doctor if active management is being pursued. Where the base deficit is persistently greater than 15, survival is extremely unlikely. This degree of acidosis is associated with widespread disruption of mitochondria at cellular level. The mitochondria often do not recover even if the precipitating cause of the MA is corrected, in which case the patient develops fatal multisystem organ failure. The management of MA in post-cardiac surgical patients is indivisibly bound up in optimizing circulatory physiology. We have not expounded on how this foundational knowledge should be applied but without it the management of MA in this patient population will be severely hampered.

Automated Solar Powered Street Lighting System with Super Capacitors

Authors: Alvin T Dela Pena*, Clarissa F Quezon and Christian Q Feliciano

Citation: Dela Pena TA, Quezon FC and Feliciano QC. Automated solar powered street lighting system with super capacitors (2020) Edelweiss Appli Sci Tech 4: 1-4.

Abstract
The researchers came up to conduct a study in creating a street lighting system powered up by solar panels that sustains its own power as a standalone system off the grid line. By analyzing the collected data regarding the power consumption of the institution where in every 15% increase in
the student’s population, there is 20% increase in the electric bill consumption rate, that is why the researchers continue to expand their previous
study, the charging station that gives an alternative source of electrical energy for mobile devices in the institution, to consider a free energy that
can be a source of light during night time, this may lessen the power consumption in the near future not only by supplying mobile devices but by
also illuminating the environment of the campus. Two hardware designs were constructed and tested as an initial hardware design to control the
lighting system namely; a microcontroller unit that will act as the charge controller for the storage unit and a relay module using discrete
components that will also act with the same function

Nursing Education and its Cultural Congruency in the Sultanate of Oman: Case Study
Authors: Suad Al Junaibi, Derek Chambers and Aru Narayanasamy
Journal: Nursing and Health Care

Complete Free access available at: http://edelweisspublications.com/articles/29/338/Nursing-Education-and-its-Cultural-Congruency-in-the-Sultanate-of-Oman:-Case-Study

Abstract
Background: The purpose of this study is to explore whether the cultural aspects of client care as included in the nursing curriculum in the Sultanate of Oman are satisfactory. This concept will be examined by reviewing the Omani Ministry of Healths (MoH) approach to designing, developing, and implementing a general nursing curriculum.

Method: This case study was explored qualitatively to determine whether nursing education addresses culturally congruent care adequately through the review of educational policy documents, semi-structured qualitative individual interviews, and focus groups. The data was collected from the MoHs nursing education decision-makers, educators, students, and service users (public) over a period of six months. To identify themes, the data was analyzed using Ritchie and Spencers five-stage analytical framework. The study used purposeful sampling to select study participants from the MoH nursing education decision-makers, educators, students and service users.

Results: The study revealed that the MoHs current approach to nursing curriculum falls short of what Denis Lawton considers a culturally competent curriculum.

Conclusion:
The study proposes to reexamine the cultural care content in the nursing education in Oman.

Simplex
Read the complete research in Edelweiss Dental Research and Management Journal

Abstract
Neural Arterial Gingival Simplex is a common systemic disease linked to an invasive periodontal pathogen, Porphyromonas gingivalis as the key initiator. Instead of considering separate pathologic conditions as separate diseases, the health community should view this disease as a single entity, to diagnose and treat accordingly. We discuss the evidence for this hypothesis and the need for definitive research. A strategy to maintain a healthy, resilient microbiome with adjunctive support by probiotics and polyols is warranted. Newer diagnostic and monitoring technologies along with many possible therapeutic agents and protocols are readily available to prevent and treat Neural Arterial Gingival Simplex.

The Positive Impact of Registered Nurse Sedation Teams

http://edelweisspublications.com/articles/29/396/The-Positive-Impact-of-Registered-Nurse-Sedation-Teams
Abstract
Background: Sedation care documentation and patient safety on general care nursing units need improvement.

Purpose: To assess the impact of implementation of a registered nurse sedation team model on patient safety and thoroughness of documentation in patients receiving moderate sedation on general care units.

Methods: In 2010 a 3-month retrospective chart review determined adverse patient outcomes and incompleteness of documentation for patients receiving sedation on general care units. After implementation of the registered nurse sedation team model for 3 months, patients sedation documentation and outcomes were assessed. The registered nurse sedation team model was implemented into practice and further outcome data from implementation through 2017 also were assessed.

Results: There was clear improvement in both required documentation during moderate sedation and patient safety (P

Title: Cardiac nursing
Cardiac nursing could be a nursing specialty that works with patients who are suffering from numerous conditions of the circulatory system. Viscos nurses facilitate treat conditions like unstable angina, heart disease, artery sickness, symptom failure, myocardial infarct and viscos dysrhythmia underneath the direction of a specialist. Viscos nurses perform operative care on a surgical unit, check evaluations, viscos watching, vascular watching, and health assessments. Viscos nurses should have Basic Life Support and Advanced viscos Life Support certification. Additionally, viscos nurses should possess specialized skills as well as EKG watching, medical aid, and medicine administration by continuous trickle. Viscos nurses add many various environments, as well as coronary care units (CCU), viscos catheterization, medical aid units, in operation theatres, viscos rehabilitation centers, clinical analysis, viscos surgery wards, vessel medical aid units, and viscos medical wards.
