A hot meal and a welcoming smile shouldn't be a luxury. But for neighbors right here in Wi******er, the reality of food insecurity is a heavy, daily burden.
Behind every bag of groceries handed out at our weekday Food Market, there is a local family who didn't have to choose between feeding their kids and keeping the lights on this week. Behind every lunch served, there are men and women in our program—and folks from our community—experiencing true hospitality, dignity, and warmth.
As you can see from these photos of our amazing volunteers in action, it takes a village to make this happen. And right now, we have a critical need for that village to grow.
We are looking for dedicated groups (4-6 people) from local businesses, churches, community groups, or even just a few good friends to commit to a regular, monthly schedule with WRM.
Whether it’s taking ownership of lunch on the 2nd Sunday of every month, or covering the Food Market on the 3rd Thursday, these regular rhythms are the heartbeat of our operation. (If you have the availability to come once a week, we have opportunities for that, too!)
How it works:
• If you cover the Food Market: Just bring yourselves and a willing heart!
• If you cover a Meal: You can use the food we already have in our pantry—we just need the hands to prepare and serve it. (If your group is able to provide the food as well, that is a tremendous blessing, but not required!)
When you commit to a monthly schedule, you aren't just volunteering—you are becoming a consistent, familiar face of hope for people who desperately need it.
Will your group step up?

Father’s Day often arrives with simple images—a card, a tie, a quiet thank-you. But for many of the men walking through our doors, today is far more complicated than a single Sunday can hold.
Some have been absent. Some have been lost. But right now, many are doing the grueling, unseen work to find their way back.
At Wi******er Rescue Mission, our 12-month Life Transformation Program is filled with men doing the hardest work there is: rebuilding a life from the foundation up. It is not quick. It is not easy. It looks like showing up for recovery, one day after another. It looks like learning to hold a job—and then holding it. It looks like the slow, brave work of becoming someone a family can trust again.
Today, we honor that deeply courageous work. Because a foundation isn't rebuilt in a moment. It is rebuilt one faithful choice at a time.
But no man does this alone. Behind every life being restored is a community that believed restoration was possible. When you financially support this program, you are not simply helping us provide a bed and a hot meal. You are giving a father the time and tools he needs to find his way home.
Thank you to the community that believes these men are worth the work.

When the sun goes down and the rest of Wi******er powers off for the night, the work at the Rescue Mission doesn't stop. In fact, that's often when our guests need us the most.
We are looking for a Program Team Member to step into our crucial "off hours." This role is so much more than just keeping the lights on or watching the door. It is about being the steady, calming presence that provides true safety, security, and stability for our residents when they are most vulnerable.
For someone navigating the trauma of homelessness, the quiet hours of the evening or the long stretch of a weekend can be the hardest to face. As a Program Team Member, you will be the person who ensures our residents have a peaceful, secure environment so they can finally get a safe night of sleep. Rooted in a Christ-centered foundation, this position is essential to our mission to offer healing from the past, help in the present, and hope for the future through restored dignity and relationships.
If you are someone who naturally brings peace to a room and wants to make a profound, tangible impact during the hours that matter most, we want you on our team.

Sometimes, the most powerful tool for ending homelessness isn't a program—it's a person pulling up a chair and saying, "I'm with you."
We are currently interviewing and searching for the right person to join our team as a Full-Time Case Manager. As we head into this week, we are still looking for that specific individual who views this work as an opportunity to walk alongside our neighbors and offer real hope for the future.
A Case Manager provides the individualized support that helps our clients navigate their way to stability. In this role, you aren't just managing files; you are developing personalized case plans, connecting residents with vital housing and employment resources, and providing the ongoing emotional support needed for long-term self-sufficiency.
What we are looking for:
A Bachelor's degree in social work, nonprofit management, or a related field.
At least two years of case management experience.
Alignment with our core values of hospitality, ownership, passion, excellence, faith, unity, and learning.
Full-time availability.
If your heart beats for offering healing from the past and help in the present, we want you at the table.

There is a profound kind of healing that can only happen with a fishing rod in hand and the quiet of a Saturday morning around you.
Yesterday, several individuals in our life-transformation program got to experience exactly that. When we talk about recovery and rebuilding lives, it’s easy to focus solely on the hard work—the counseling, the job applications, the journey to housing. But restoring a life also means restoring joy.
Recreational moments like this aren't just "extras"; they are vital to the healing process. It reminds the men and women in our programs that they are worthy of peace, rest, and a beautiful day simply breathing in the fresh air. Seeing the smiles and the light return to their eyes yesterday was a powerful reminder of why we are working so hard to create more of these restorative opportunities.
But a morning like this takes a village, and we are so incredibly blessed by ours.
We want to send a massive, heartfelt thank you to our friends at WATTS. When we had the vision for this trip but needed a way to physically get everyone out there, they didn't hesitate. They stepped up to provide the transportation to make this entire day possible. True community collaboration looks exactly like this, and we are so grateful for their continued partnership in serving our city.
We also want to extend our deepest gratitude to the incredible people at Landfall Lodge and the Hunter Crane Foundation for their generosity in hosting us on these breathtaking grounds.
There's no ask today. Just overwhelming gratitude for a community that believes in restoring dignity, one quiet Saturday morning at a time.

Imagine finally landing the perfect job, getting the offer, and then losing the opportunity—all because you can't afford a piece of plastic with your face on it.
For our neighbors experiencing homelessness, the lack of a simple state ID, birth certificate, or driver's license is one of the most agonizing hurdles to securing employment and housing. The DMV and state offices require fees for these critical documents—fees that our residents simply do not have.
The last time we shared this need, this incredible community stepped into the gap. Because of the Visa gift cards you donated, we were able to help several residents secure the exact documents they needed to move their lives forward!
But today, we are hitting that wall again, and we need your help to keep this momentum going.
You might be wondering: Why Visa gift cards? Providing these cards enables us to put the necessary funds directly into a resident's hands in a much safer and more manageable way than cash. The cards are carefully tracked, signed out for specific appointments, and returned by residents so we can steward your generosity well. It provides accountability while empowering our guests to handle their business with dignity.
Will you help a neighbor clear this hurdle? Here is how you can help right now:
1) Purchase a Visa gift card in a denomination of $25 or $50.
2) Place it in an envelope clearly marked for "Resident IDs/Documents."
3) Drop it off at our front desk at 2655 Valley Avenue in the City of Wi******er.
4) Give us a call ahead of time at (540) 667-5379 to let us know you are on your way!
Together, we can ensure that a small filing fee never stands in the way of a transformed life.

[UPDATE: We have the shelves! Thanks to all of you who reached out and offered to meet this need! We no longer need any more shelves or books at this time. But we will let you know in the future as we get the room put together.]
A quiet room and a good book. It sounds simple. But for our neighbors walking through crisis, having a peaceful place to read, study, and process their journey is a vital step toward rebuilding their lives.
Take a look at this room. We are currently transforming it into a dedicated space for case management and a quiet library. Access to books—whether for learning a new skill, preparing for the workforce, or simply finding a mental escape—offers an incredible educational and recreational impact for the men and women in our program.
To make this a reality, we need your help: we need a few bookshelves.
Because we want this room to feel intentional, calming, and dignifying for our clients, we are specifically looking for a donation of matching sets (ideally) of bookshelves in good condition.
Do you have a quality set that needs a new home? Here is how you can help: 1) Snap a few pictures of the shelves. 2) Email them directly to Sam at [email protected]. 3) He will take a look to ensure they are the right fit for the space and coordinate a time to receive them from you!
Thank you for always stepping up to ensure our clients have the resources and the environment they need to succeed.

Over 80%!!!
This week, alarms went off across our building. Coffee was poured, shoes were laced up, and our clients headed out the doors to clock in.
We would love to share photos of them proudly heading off to their shifts, but respect for their privacy will always come first here at WRM. So, we're sharing this graphic instead—because the milestone it represents is absolutely awesome.
Right now, over 80% of the clients in our programs are fully employed.
People often ask us: If someone has a full-time job, why are they still staying at the Rescue Mission?
It’s a fair question. The answer is that landing a job is just the first step. The real change happens in the runway that follows. By remaining in our programs while working, these men and women have the vital opportunity to save their income, pay off old debts, and build a solid financial foundation. That means when they graduate from WRM, they aren't just scraping by—they are set up to truly relaunch their lives.
We are incredibly grateful to our programs team who walk alongside them daily and share in this achievement, and to the community whose support built this facility to make this runway possible.
But today, all the praise belongs to the men and women putting in the hard work. We just provide the roof and the resources. They are the ones overcoming massive barriers, stepping out into the workforce, and doing the heavy lifting to change their futures.
To our clients: we see you, we are incredibly proud of the work you are doing, and Wi******er is a better community because you are in it. Keep building.
