One new bird can bring in more than just fresh genetics.

Parasites (including lice, mites, and worms), respiratory illness, and disease don’t care how healthy a bird looks when it arrives. Stress from transport and a new environment can bring hidden problems to the surface.

A couple months of quarantine can save you a lot of headaches, heartache, and flock-wide problems.

🛑 𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗬 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗯𝗶𝗿𝗱—𝗻𝗼 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. 🛑

✔️ Separate housing (𝘢𝘴 𝘧𝘢𝘳 𝘢𝘸𝘢𝘺 𝘢𝘴 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘦)

✔️ Separate feeders & waterers

✔️ Keep equipment separate & clean

✔️ Observe birds throughout quarantine

✔️ Care for quarantined birds last

✔️ Use dedicated footwear

✔️ Wash hands & change clothes

After a month of quarantine, I place one of my own birds in the quarantine pen with the newcomer for another month. It gives me one more opportunity to observe both birds before exposing my flock.

Hatch day! I love because I can see the babies hatching in this incubator but it will never compare to my cabinet where the hatch rate is always amazing. What do you prefer?
