Please join ARE and the RISE Center this Juneteenth by celebrating Black Excellence in the progression of HIV/AIDS research, treatment, education, and advocacy. Below are just a few of the incredible minds who have shaped the advancements in HIV/AIDS.
Dr. Lisa Fitzpatrick — American infectious disease physician, epidemiologist, and public health expert who has worked through community engagement to decrease HIV and s*xual health stereotypes as well as increase education on the topics.
Phill Wilson — Founder of the Black AIDS Institute and front runner for advocacy regarding the impact of HIV on the black community. Phill has worked tirelessly to promote policy changes, increase prevention programs, and to bring attention to necessary conversations regarding racial disparities in healthcare.
Leisha McKinley-Beach -- National HIV expert, community mobilization trainer, and strategic planner for state HIV prevention programs throughout the south.
James Hildreth Sr., MD, PhD — World-renowned researcher on HIV/AIDS, who has contributed more than 100 peer-reviewed publications, and 11 patents.
Dr. David Malebranche — Leading voice in addressing health disparities among Black LGBTQ+ individuals. Dr. Malebranche's research and clinical practice focus on providing culturally competent care, and ensuring that Black men who have s*x with men receive adequate support and treatment.
Vuyiseka Dubula, PhD — Her HIV diagnosis led her to become one of the foremost African female advocates for the rights of people living with HIV in South Africa. Vuyiseka also founded the Activist Centre for Education & Development (AEDC) which facilitates skills and economic development of women living with HIV.
