Helping to spay and neuter, feed and provide shelter to homeless animals

06/17/2026

We were at an event Saturday and several people commented how great it was the the shelter was empty- but it’s NOT. The reality is that just because there are only a handful of animals for adoption, those are not the only animals we are caring for. Because we provide animal control services as well, there is a constant rotation of animals and their status. There are currently 84 animals in the shelter and here is how that works out:
7 are adoption ready
9 are related to court cases and we have to hold them until the cases are resolved. This can be a few weeks to years- our longest case was 30 months
32 are not ready for adoption yet due to medical reasons. This could be an illness or injury or nursing moms with babies that are not yet weaned.
32 animals were surrendered by their owners in the past 3 days. Those animals still have to see the vet and be cleared both medically and behaviorally before they are ready for adoption.
4 are on stray hold which means they were found wondering and their owner is unknown so we must hold them for 5 days before they can start the process of being prepared for adoption.
