💡Most groups don't struggle because they lack passion or good ideas. They struggle because collaboration is a skill—and sometimes nobody teaches us how to do it.

ProSocial Action Lab is a 10-week, action-oriented experience for teams and groups ready to deepen trust, strengthen relationships, align around a shared purpose, and turn ideas into meaningful impact. Participants work alongside groups from around the world while receiving coaching, practical tools, and support from experienced ProSocial facilitators.

Whether you're leading a team or work inside one, this is an opportunity to build the collaborative capacity needed to create lasting change.

Adding a Philosophical Toolkit to the New Paradigm for Evolving Cooperative Systems, by Ed Gibney 06/16/2026

🌱What if solving society's biggest challenges requires more than better science?

David Sloan Wilson's "new paradigm" draws on complexity science and evolutionary theory to understand how cooperative systems evolve. But is something missing?

A growing argument is that we also need a practical philosophy—one that applies evolutionary thinking to ethics, knowledge, and decision-making.

The goal isn't just to explain how the world works. It's to help us navigate a deeper question: how do we move from understanding what is to deciding what ought to be?

And could an evolutionary approach to problem-solving help us build more cooperative and effective institutions?

Adding a Philosophical Toolkit to the New Paradigm for Evolving Cooperative Systems, by Ed Gibney The emerging discipline of evolutionary philosophy can also provide helpful cognitive tools for the paradigm of evolving cooperative systems.

🌱What sustains cooperation over time isn't moral effort – it's the conditions we build together. The structures, the shared purpose, the practices that make working well with others the path of least resistance rather than the exception to the rule. That's what ProSocial Action Lab is for.

PAL is a 10-week cohort-based program for existing groups of 3-10 people who want to work better together – not in theory, but in practice, on real challenges, with expert coaching and a global community of peers doing the same work.

Groups from Nigeria, the United States, and Cameroon have come through PAL and left not just with better tools but with a different sense of what their groups are capable of.

August 2026 cohorts are now open. Spots are limited to 10 groups, and a limited number of scholarships are available.

Cooperation and Collective Action in Deep Time and the Archaeological Record 06/10/2026

🏺When did humans first learn to work together? We often think of cooperation as a modern achievement. But the archaeological record tells a different story.

For thousands of years, humans have relied on collective action to survive, solve problems, and build increasingly complex societies. From sharing resources to coordinating large-scale projects, cooperation may have been one of our species' greatest evolutionary advantages.

This raises an intriguing question: if cooperation helped our ancestors thrive, why do modern societies so often struggle to act together on shared challenges? And what can human history teach us about building a more cooperative future?

🌱Guru Madhavan, Senior Director of Programs at the National Academy of Engineering, and David Sloan Wilson, evolutionary biologist and professor emeritus at Binghamton University, will be part of the next Engineering Change Lab.

ECL’s next summit, Transforming the Regulatory System, will focus on one important aspect of the shift from a lawyerly society to more of an engineering society and on the role the engineering community can play in leading these efforts.

It will combine presentations by leaders to draw out and capitalize on the diverse perspectives and “group genius” of the participants. The summit is an opportunity for the engineering community to think big about the possibilities for transforming the US regulatory system.

Join us as we define a new trajectory and renew our commitment to serve society with stewardship, vision, and purpose.
