IAS had a great time as a sponsor of the annual ISPE Carolina–South Atlantic Chapter RTP Golf Tournament at the beautiful Prestonwood Country Club in Cary, North Carolina. Throughout the day, we enjoyed connecting with industry professionals while providing beverages, snacks, and plenty of swag at Meadows Hole 2, where we also sponsored the “Hole-In-One” challenge. Although there were no winners this year, the competition and camaraderie made for a fantastic event. Representing IAS was Kimberly Pelkey, Francesko Shyti, Katie Friday, Matt Mosley, and Latasha McCauley. We’re already looking forward to next year!

5 Reasons to use a Load Reactor with a VFD:
1. Protects Motor Insulation from Voltage Spikes
This minimizes reflected wave voltage spikes at the motor terminals—especially important with long cable runs—protecting motor insulation and extending motor life.
2. Extends Motor and Cable Life
By smoothing the PWM waveform, a load reactor reduces electrical stress on both the motor windings and the cable insulation.
3. Reduces Harmful Reflected Wave Phenomena
In installations with long lead lengths (typically over ~50–100 feet), reflected waves can cause voltage to exceed 2–3 times the DC bus voltage. A load reactor mitigates this effect by dampening the waveform before it reaches the motor.
4. Lowers Motor Heating and Audible Noise
The reactor filters high-frequency components of the VFD output, resulting in a cleaner waveform, reducing eddy current losses and motor heating.
5. Improves Overall System Reliability
By reducing electrical stress, nuisance trips, and component wear, load reactors contribute to fewer maintenance issues and improved uptime—particularly in demanding industrial environments.
