Congratulations to our Spring 2026 service dog training interns, Nick and Kevin! ๐๐พ
Both Veterans themselves, Nick and Kevin poured their passion and dedication into the program as they paid it forward by training service dogs for fellow Veterans.
Kevin has accepted a position as a CFS Service Dog Trainer and Nick will also join our team full-time later this summer. We're grateful to have them both continue to make an impact by supporting our mission. ๐บ๐ธ

๐บ๐ธ Happy Women Veterans Day! ๐บ๐ธ
Today, we honor the courage, leadership, and service of the women who have worn our nation's uniform.
Navy Veteran, Anne Leanos, who is waiting to receive a Canines for Service service dog shared:
"Military service has shaped who I am and taught me resilience, humility, and a commitment to something bigger than myself. The values I learned in the Navy continue to guide how I serve my clients, our Wilmington community, and our country today. On Women Veterans Day, I'm especially grateful for the women who served before me and helped pave the way for future generations to lead and give back."
As she prepares to receive a service dog, she also reminds us that service continues beyond the military:
"As a Veteran, I've learned that none of us succeeds alone. I'm deeply thankful to the donors, volunteers, and trainers who make programs like Canines for Service possible. What I look forward to most about receiving a service dog is the partnershipโa highly trained companion who can provide support when I need it and help me continue living, working, and serving with confidence."
Today, we celebrate the women who served, the paths they continue to forge, and the communities that stand beside them. โค๏ธ๐พ

๐พ Partnership Update ๐พ
Because of your support, Navy Veteran Chris was partnered with Henry, a devoted Goldador trained to help with the effects of PTSD and traumatic brain injury.
Just three months into their partnership, Chris reports better sleep, stronger routines, less anxiety, and a renewed sense of calm. Henry has even helped Chris continue the job he loves and feel more comfortable in places that once felt overwhelming.
This PTSD Awareness Month, you can be proud knowing your support is impacting Veterans like Chris every day.

Service dogs in training Jet, Bogey, Tuck, George, Lucy, and Mason recently put their public access skills to the test at the Wilmington International Airport. From rolling suitcases and busy crowds to unfamiliar sights and sounds, the airport provided plenty of real-world distractions for the dogs to navigate while maintaining focus on their handlers. Experiences like these help prepare future service dogs to remain calm, confident, and attentive in a variety of public settings.
School's out, and puppies are in! ๐พ
This summer, you can help shape the future of a service dog by opening your home to a puppy in training. Make this a summer that changes two lives, yours and a Veteran's.
