The A.T. Guide (Awol’s Guide) is the most popular guidebook on the Appalachian Trail. Guide is the book most often used by Appalachian Trail Hikers.
Here's why:
1) All landmarks are shown superimposed on an elevation profile. Wherever you are on the trail, you’ll know at a glance the ups and downs that lie ahead. No other AT book has an integrated elevation profile.
2) It has the most information. 2603 landmarks (streams, side trails, road crossings, etc.) are identified along the way; this is several hundred more than any other source.

Access to the Appalachian Trail (A.T) and two other trails in Bear Mountain State Park have been temporarily rerouted due to construction projects between the parking area near the Bear Mountain Inn and the trailheads. Some sections may reopen in spring 2026, with the remaining construction expected to be complete in summer 2027.

On November 11, Charles Hosch set out on a hike on the Bryon Herbert Reece Trail, a short path that connects to the summit of Blood Mountain in Georgia via the Appalachian Trail. Then he disappeared.

🚧 Trail Update – SW Virginia 🚧
The Virginia Creeper Trail east of Damascus is closed for major repairs after Hurricane Helene. The A.T. from Highway 58 at Straight Branch to Grassy Ridge Road/VA 859 — NOBO miles 476.6–485.8 — will be closed for approximately one year while construction is underway.

It’s Friday, and we still haven’t heard back from our developer regarding the issue where the 2026 version is pulling the 2021 PDF in our iOS app. Because of this, we don’t expect an update from him until at least Tuesday.

We have discovered a temporary workaround for those experiencing difficulty logging in.
Use the “I need to purchase a PDF” option instead of “I have already purchased a PDF.” Log in there, then hit the exit button in the top left corner once logged in to return to your dashboard, where you should now be logged in.
