Did you know that in 1899 Henry Bliss became the first known pedestrian to die as a result of a motor vehicle collision? Bliss was allegedly stepping off from a streetcar when he was struck by a passing automobile. The driver of the automobile was initially arrested and charged with his death but the charges would later be dismissed.

According to IIHS, 1,109 people lost their lives in 2021 due to someone running a red light. More than half of those were pedestrians and cyclists. Remember to always scan your intersections and pause before entering the intersection if you’re the first car in line when your light turns green.
