Great to be at Interschutz 2026 in Hannover this week — one of the world’s leading trade fairs for fire services, rescue operations, and civil protection.
We stopped by the ASM Schulungen stand to meet Kemal Dzomba, whose team has integrated the Midtronics xIM-100E EV Immobilizer directly into their fire service training programmes.
Electric vehicles can appear inactive after an accident while still being capable of movement. The xIM-100E connects through the charge port and displays immobilisation status within seconds. No high-voltage contact.
No complicated setup.
Two states, no room for confusion:
🟢 Green – Vehicle immobilized
🔴 Red – Take precautions
An additional layer of protection for the professionals who need it most.

A battery test only tells part of the story if nothing is recorded. When documentation is missing, conversations rely on memory instead of proof. That gap can turn into lost trust, disputes, and missed opportunities. Complete documentation turns a routine test into something that protects the shop and strengthens every recommendation.

Why Battery Documentation Is as Important as the Test Itself Battery testing without documentation is an incomplete service, and in some situations it’s no service at all. A test result that lives only in a

A depleted hybrid battery shouldn't mean a scrapped battery.
When hybrid batteries drop to a low SOC, they cannot turn over the engine to start the vehicle. But you can’t just use a regular jump start on these high-voltage packs. You need a high voltage rescue charger. By rescue charging, you save thousands in part cost, hours in service time and reduce scrapped batteries sent to the recycler.
The xRC-3363 enables that high-voltage jumpstart.
It delivers up to 336V at 3A directly to the high-voltage battery — enough to get the ICE started — and save the HV pack. Compatible with both lithium-ion and NiMH batteries across a wide range of HEV platforms. Certified to CE, RoHS, FCC, and UL standards. Field-tested with major HEV manufacturers.
A faster, environmentally friendly path from dead hybrid to running vehicle at a cost savings.

A customer arrives with a battery purchased elsewhere and a concern that needs answers. The response defines the experience.
Objective testing and clear communication keep the focus on what the vehicle actually needs. Handled well, this moment can build trust and turn a one-time visit into a lasting customer relationship.

How to Handle Concerns When a Battery Was Bought Elsewhere When a customer brings in a battery concern and the battery didn’t come from your shop, the right move is to test it, print the result, and advise them

"Good Battery" on an ICE Diagnostic Doesn't Mean "Good Battery" in an EV.
In an ICE vehicle, the 12V battery cranks the engine. In an EV, it powers ABS, stability control, collision mitigation, power steering, emergency SOS — and engages the HV battery pack.
Traditional diagnostics test for engine-cranking health. EVs don't need that. They need SafetyPower™ Capacity — the ability to support the vehicle's critical low-voltage systems.
A battery can pass a cranking test but still fail to support the large amount of low-voltage draws in modern EVs.
SafetyPower™ Diagnostics was built for what EVs actually demand. Fast, accurate, purpose-built — available as a software enhancement to the DCA-8000.
Maintenance is changing. Batteries are more critical than ever.

EV safety training loses relevance faster than many shops expect. New vehicle architectures, evolving high-voltage systems, and everyday team changes create gaps that are easy to miss but critical to address. Small inconsistencies in procedures can build over time and increase risk without warning. Regular refreshes help teams stay aligned with the realities of the vehicles in front of them today.

Why EV Safety Training Needs to Be Refreshed Regularly The vehicles, procedures, and industry guidance that EV safety training covers are all moving targets, and training that was accurate two or three years
