Local 5043 had the privilege of assisting Barbara Ann Martin and her mother, Iris Jackson with constructing a new deck and wheelchair ramp outside of her residence. Barbara is currently in a wheelchair and her current standing made it borderline impossible to get in or out of her residence without the assistance of either family, or having to call the fire department. After responding to this residence multiple times, a few members from ESD 1 Station 93 suggested to the L5043 that constructing a new ramp would greatly assist this family with day to day life, along with the fire department, if response to the house was necessary. We would like to give a big thank you to HIXSON LUMBER out of Willis, whom donated ALL the lumber for the build. Also, MCESD 1 for allowing members to not only design and pre-construct the deck and ramp on duty at station 93, but to also allow on duty firefighters to assist in the build. We are sure that the efforts from all mentioned have greatly impacted this family's life and the Local was very happy to do so.
