Today, we proudly observe Workers’ Memorial Day and honor all workers who never made it home from their shifts, and everyone who has been impacted by unsafe working conditions. Kimberly Brewer, President of SEIU Local 513, led the moment of silence and bell ringing in honor of 57 lives lost, at the Workers’ Memorial Day ceremony hosted by the Wichita-Hutchinson Labor Federation last week. Below, you can listen to President Brewer’s reading of “A Prayer for the Fallen” by Reverend Ian Lawton and experience the ringing of the bells.

We hope that you’ll join us in holding the line for safer working conditions, and that you’ll honor past generations of union members who fought tirelessly for workplace protections for all. Most importantly, take a moment to remember the workers we have lost.

We mourn for the dead, and we fight for the living.

We are so proud to share photos of the outstanding contributions of our community, which will ultimately mean dozens of meals and hygiene items distributed to our Union family and community members.

🔔 This morning our City, County & School Board meet to talk public safety + education. Here’s the smartest, most cost-effective solution on the table: COMMUNITY SCHOOLS.

When schools double as neighborhood hubs—complete with on‑site mental‑health care (thanks, COMCARE!) and after‑school “Safe Zones” run by Parks & Rec—kids thrive and calls to 911 drop.

Why it matters:
• Integrated services = stronger families
• Embedded therapists = fewer crises
• Evening GED, ESL, job‑training classes = safer, more vibrant neighborhoods

Independent studies show up to $15 in return for every $1 spent on wrap‑around supports. Wichita Public Schools is creating a pilot with six Community Schools in 2025–26 and proving it.

City of Wichita- Government Sedgwick County Government

Congress just passed a bill that guts wages, healthcare, and immigrant protections - all while handing over $4.5 trillion in tax breaks to the ultra-wealthy and corporations. That means:
- 16 million people lose healthcare
- union jobs and public services on the chopping block
- ICE raids and immigrant detention ramping up
- cuts to education, climate response, and food aid
- a total assault on working families
