Today's find... 1970s Tama Imperialstar concert tom kit w/Zildjian cymbals. This was just a 20 minute drive!

OK. A genuine "barn find," and a soon restore/rewrap project. Drove over 5 hours (one way) to pick it up.
A late 70s Model FW-8DVP set...
As you can see, pretty ruff shape and the teakwood wrap is toast!
I'm thinking it will probably end up becoming blue sparkle!

Finally finished with the refurb!
I bought these thinking they'd be a rewrap project, but thanks to my very talented teenage granddaughter, the original wrap has been saved... with the splits and bad seams successfully addressed!
(See my January 28 post on this page for "before" pics!)

14x22 double-headed bass drum (non-original hoops)

14x24 Ludwig B/O rounded corner badge bass drum in black cortex.
I picked it up sometime Fall 2025 and finally have it cleaned up.
The BD hoops are NOT original. It only came with one (w/silver sparkle inlays) and I gave up (at least for now!) looking for one without paying an arm & a leg for a replacement.
I'll get a white "Ludwig" decal for the front (eventually), or might even change the head to white or clear...

DUCK TAPE is NEVER a drummer's friend. NEVER.
A dose of rubbing alcohol and Goo-Gone and a toothbrush cleaned it up... but WHY would anyone do this in the first place? Pure stupidity!

My first "find" of the new year, a late 1970s Slingerland Concert Tom kit.
Other than the obvious problems in the wrap, MOST of the wrap is in really good shape! I've hired my artistic teenage granddaughter to try to touch up the bad spots rather than to rewrap the whole set. Then of course the BD hoops need repainting, and the whole set a good cleaning and polishing!
I will repost when done! :)
Yes, the white Ludwig Rockers double bass set is waiting for some cleaning and polishing. Hope to post pics soon!

Well, I had posted about a month ago that I hoped to have this set done by the end of the year... but ended up making it a priority!
I'm still needing a WFG (or FG) 16x18 floor tom, but after setting this thing up without it, I'm honestly wondering why I would need it? 🙂
Built all from orphans I had obtained throughout the last several years, all with problems (of one form or another) and needing rewrapped. So, here's the set, wrapped in Jammin' Sams' "Tropical Blue:"
14x22 WFG bass drum
14x18 FG bass drum (my regular gigging drum!)
16, 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8, & 6 FG concert toms
5.5x14 COB Jupiter snare drum
Looks like with this setup I need to find some sort of boom stand for the 8 & 6 concert toms. I've probably got something that will work around here.
The cymbals are the same set of AZildjians I've used since a kid back in the early 70s: 20 ride, 18, 16, 14 crash, + 15" hats (I've also got a 8 splash but didn't get it out).
The stands and hardware are all Pearl (various generations) except the base of the clip mount stand for the small CTs (sorry, I know some would consider it sacrilegious, but it's a TAMA).
ALSO... Please forgive my "hodge-podge" of head choices. I put on them what I had available. Eventually I'll get around to purchasing Remo CS black dots for all of the toms (which was OEM for these at least in the mid-to-late 70s). I've also considered buying new black Evans Hydraulics (I do like the sound on these FG CT's, and my wife likes the black heads with the blue drums!).

NOT FOR SALE -- Completed another one for my long-time "dream" set...
The Pearl WFG 14x22 bass drum is done (except for badges).
This one was Pearl's Blue Satin of the 70s, but that wrap was shot (splits, bubbles, wrinkles, crinkles, and badly faded!). It has been replaced with Jammin' Sams' Tropical Blue to match the other drums I've finished (14x18 FG BD and 6, 8, 10, and 12 FG CTs).
I've wrapped this as if it's a "virgin" drum, but did NOT fill in the tom mount holes (in case at some time I decide to mount one).
So, now I've only got the 13, 14, 15, and 16" FG concert toms to complete (as well as a 16x18 FG or WFG floor tom, of which I'm still looking for one to rewrap!)
