Here is a before and after of a tricky trombone repair. This trombone had a bad crunch which ripped the tube away from the rotor casing at the hard solder point. To fix this, as a hard solder needs to be much hotter than a soft solder, we had to disconnect all the soft solder joints to isolate the rotor casing. The metal of the old tube was very worn and thin, and using a high-powered torch for soldering would create a whole in the tube. Because of this, we made a new tube and fit it to the rotor casing. Hard solered it and soft soldered all the joints back together and... Voila! We have a working trombone once more. This is a rare issue, which made it a fun project and a great learning experience.

These two clarinets were donated to Fanfare Instruments for Students and brought to us for an overhaul. Their Mission: "The mission of Fanfare Instruments for Students is to provide underprivileged students with band and orchestra instruments at no charge to the family. We intend to form a solid support system for each student by attending their concerts and acknowledging life events such as birthdays and graduations. As musicians, we understand the importance of support when it comes to studying music and learning an instrument." (fanfareinstruments.org). We at Lighthouse Music Services are excited and eager to support Fanfare and their mission to provide instruments for students. We believe music plays a vital part in all our lives. Learning to play music, even more. It provides a space for kids to express themselves, find connection in community, and share experiences that will last a lifetime. Fanfareās goal is to give students these opportunities and we could not be more honored to work with them. Visit their website at fanfareintruments.org and reach out to their founder and CEO, Deb Thomas at [email protected] for questions and donations.

We had the privilege of working on one of two Contrabass Flutes in the state of Kansas. Afterwards, we were treated to a beautiful play test.

After a good clean and polishing, the vintage York trumpet is shining bright once again. While plating has worn in some places, its beauty has been restored. It has been well-loved for a very long time and will continue to shine for our client!
