🏡 MORTGAGE MARKET UPDATE
If you've been watching mortgage rates, here's the simple version of what's happening:📈 Rates are feeling some upward pressure. This morning's inflation report came in a little hotter than expected. Why does that matter? Because when inflation looks like it may be picking back up, bond yields can rise and mortgage rates can feel the pressure.
⛽ Oil prices matter too. Oil has been extremely volatile. Higher oil prices can increase the cost of transportation, goods and services, which can add to inflation concerns and ultimately affect interest rates.
🏦 Next week could be important. The Federal Reserve meets next week, and the market will be paying close attention to what they say about inflation, the economy and the direction of interest rates.
One important reminder: The Fed does NOT directly set 30-year mortgage rates. Mortgage rates are much more closely connected to the bond market and the 10-year Treasury. That's why mortgage rates can move before the Fed ever makes a decision.
🔑 What does this mean if you're buying a home?
Don't try to perfectly time the market. Rates can change quickly in either direction. Instead, let's look at your payment, your budget and your overall financing strategy and determine what makes sense for YOU.
