I’m back! Hello, everyone! I’m Mrs. Maulden. Please join us in welcoming Barwise’s new Academic Counselor, Mrs. Burns, to the Barwise family for the 2026–2027 school year!

I was born and raised in WV and, at the age of 20, decided to see the world by enlisting in the US Navy as a Torpedoman's Mate. After five years of service, I received an Honorable Discharge and began pursuing my passion for education.

I earned my Bachelor of Science in Education from East Central University in Ada, OK, and began my teaching career in the Houston area. I taught 4th-grade Math, Science, and Social Studies at Sheldon ISD (2yrs) and Dayton ISD (2yrs). After relocating to North Texas, I continued teaching at Newcastle ISD, where I taught 4th-grade Math, Science, and Social Studies, as well as middle school math and high school Algebra Lab.

After several years in the classroom, I transitioned into the nonprofit sector. I served as Program Director for Olney HOPE and later earned my Master’s degree in Counseling from Midwestern State University. Following graduate school, I worked with Foster’s Family Care Program before moving into positions with the TDCJ in Victim Services and Institutional Parole at the Allred Unit. I later returned to counseling in the nonprofit sector with STARRY Counseling in Stephenville.

In 2016, I returned to public education as the School Counselor at Brook Village ECC in Wichita Falls ISD. I spent nine wonderful years serving students and families there, followed by one year at West Foundation Elementary. I am excited to begin this new chapter at Barwise and look forward to supporting students, families, and staff.

On a personal note, I have been married to my wonderful husband, Rodney, for over seven years. My son, Cody, serves in the United States Air Force and is stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso with his wife, Allyson, and their two children, Benjamin and Lyla. My daughter, Keeley, is a nurse at United Regional. She and her boyfriend, Brad, have four children between them—Jake, Ashlyn, Braelynn, and Bubba—who keep our family busy with activities including band, soccer, baseball, softball, volleyball, and basketball. In my free time, I enjoy reading, spending time in the pool, and traveling to visit family whenever possible.

Please join us in welcoming Barwise’s new Instructional Dean, Mrs. Kea, to the Barwise family for the 2026–2027 school year!

Mrs. Kaleena Kea (pronounced "K"). I began my teaching career in Burkburnett ISD and served in the classroom for sixteen years. The first ten years I was at Hardin Elementary where I taught 4th grade math for six years and then moved into 2nd grade for four years teaching math (3 years) and then ELAR (1 year). Then I transitioned over to Burk Middle School and taught 6th grade ELAR for three years and then 8th grade Advanced ELAR for three years. I served on a variety of leadership teams throughout my time in Burkburnett ranging from the rollout of 1:1 devices and implementing technology into instruction to the implementation of project-based learning. I also had the privilege of hosting several student teachers and mentoring new teachers in the district- this inspired me to pursue my Masters in Educational Leadership and Principal Certification. For the past three years, I have been the Assistant Principal at Henrietta Elementary where I also completed my Superintendent Certification. I am so excited to be joining the leadership team at Barwise Middle School and the opportunity to focus on instruction and supporting teachers in their craft.

Outside of school- I enjoy reading, games/puzzles, and spending time with my family and fur babies. My husband, Shawn, and I love working to plan trips and activities with our children. Ashley, her husband, and our grandbaby live in Missouri, and we love traveling to see them. Caleb graduated from Texas A&M just over a year ago and is settled in the Dallas area working and thriving, Addie is going into her senior year playing basketball and finishing her marketing degree at Clarkson University in New York, and Avery will begin at Midwestern State University this fall in the pre-dental program.

Please join us in welcoming Barwise’s new Assistant Principal, Ms. Leger, to the Barwise family for the 2026–2027 school year!

Ms. Leger (pronounced “Legger,” even though it doesn’t look like it!)

I served as the Assistant Principal at Booker T. Washington Elementary for the past two years. My career in education began at Zundy Leadership Academy, where I taught 6th-grade math and coached cheerleading for two years. I then served on the transition team during the Zundy/Barwise merger and absolutely loved teaching Leadership, Math, and College & Career Prep at Barwise. Returning to BMS as the AP feels like coming home, and I am excited to be part of the Eagle family again!

Outside of school, I enjoy working on my ranch and spending time with my amazing animals, including cattle, donkeys, chickens, and sheep. I am incredibly proud of my two wonderful children—Caden, 19, who is attending Vernon College in the welding program, and Hannah, 22, who is blazing her own trail in Kansas City, Missouri.
