Federal Prosecutor Warns ‘More Arrests Are Coming’ After ‘Massive’ Fraud Uncovered in California Homeless Services

January 6, 2026 — Los Angeles, CA — A top federal prosecutor vowed Tuesday that additional arrests are imminent in an expanding investigation into fraud involving homeless service funds in California, describing the probe as far from over and saying authorities have already followed the paper trail to uncover significant wrongdoing.

U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli, the chief federal prosecutor for the Central District of California, said recent indictments and arrests tied to misuse of taxpayer dollars are “just the beginning” of a broader effort to hold accountable those who diverted funds intended for homelessness programs and services.

Essayli’s office has been leading a multiagency task force examining reports that developers, nonprofit executives and other individuals defrauded state and federal grants that were supposed to help provide housing and support for people experiencing homelessness.

While details of all ongoing investigations have not yet been publicly disclosed, several federal cases announced in recent months involved allegations that funds were falsely obtained or misused. In one instance, executives were accused of submitting fabricated financial information to secure millions of dollars in state homeless housing grants — with some of the funds allegedly spent on personal expenses rather than approved projects.

Essayli’s warning reflects mounting federal scrutiny of how homelessness funds are administered and monitored across California — a state that has poured billions into combating an escalating housing crisis. Authorities say their fraud investigation has revealed “massive” irregularities and that federal prosecutors will pursue all credible leads.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Los Angeles has formed a Homelessness Fraud and Corruption Task Force with support from the FBI, the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Office of Inspector General, and other federal partners to coordinate the probe. 01/08/2026

-Jesus Promises Another Helper-
15 “If you love Me, keep My commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.

(Matthew 6:19-21) NLT
“Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal.
