*** Final Report ***

N5114Z Cessna 172S Harrison, New York 18 MAY 2026

2 Minor Injuries

Pilot Flight Time:
Student - 59 hours (Total, all aircraft), 59 hours (Total, this make and model)
CPL/Instructor - 665 hours (Total, all aircraft), 451 hours (Total, this make and model)

The flight instructor and student pilot reported that they were conducting a soft field takeoff when the student pilot applied excessive aft control yoke input, and the stall warning horn sounded. The flight instructor directed the student pilot to release some back pressure and pushed forward on the control yoke, which lowered the pitch attitude of the airplane. Subsequently, the student pilot aggressively reapplied what he thought was the appropriate amount of aft control yoke input and the airplane pitched up. The flight instructor attempted to correct for the excessive pitch up; however, she was unable to overpower the student pilot. The airplane stalled, rolled to the left and impacted the ground sustaining substantial damage to the fuselage and vertical stabilizer.

Probable Cause and Findings:
The student pilot’s excessive pitch up attitude during takeoff, which resulted in an aerodynamic stall and loss of control.

The final day of our Youth Aviation Summer Camp came to a close on Friday with all the attendees being awarded their well earned Certificates. I would like to THANK all of our CFIs that made the camp a huge success (in no specific order): Ryan, Adrian, Tom, Jakob, Dan and Thierno.

I would also like to send a special SHOUT OUT to Ryan for all his hard work in the planning and running a World Class Camp!!!

Day 3 of our Aviation Summer Camp yesterday was another great day even though the weather was a " little wet"...the attendees were hard at work in the simulator, leared about weather, radio communication, and systems. We even had a special guest speaker for NOAA, Mark Ratzer, give a presentation to the group.

Another great day is on the books for our Aviation Summer Camp! Today our campers were working hard learning about weather, systems, weight and balance, simulator training and aircraft performance. Also we had two amazing guest speakers, Chuck Heftman (ATC) and Sam Rannochio (airline pilot), share their experiences and perspectives with the group.
