Chicks at about 6 weeks old!

Chicks have started hatching!! The first chick hatched early this morning at about 6AM. So far five chicks have fully hatched with more on the way.
Once all of the chicks have hatched and are dry they will be moved from the incubator to a brooder. They will live in the brooder for about six weeks until the adult feathers have grown in. At that point they can be slowly introduced to the rest of the flock.

41 chicken eggs in the incubator. They started the incubation process on 10/24 and will take about 21 days to hatch.

Twenty-five of the forty-one eggs were fertile. After about a week the eggs can be candled to determine if they are fertile. We have 9 to 10 days left until the chicks start to hatch.

These chicks will be cross breed chicks. Silkie roosters bred with our other breed varieties. They will hatch and grow to be hard feathered birds unlike a normal silkie. If these offspring are bred they will have some silkie feathered chicks.

We will post updates on the chicks as they start to hatch.
