Shipment arrival of Multi-Suisse Toolholder from Germany.
Each metal lathe needs tool post. The tool post is one of the most important components of a metal lathe. Its purpose is to securely hold the cutting tool in the correct position while allowing precise adjustment of the tool's height, angle, and orientation. A rigid, well-designed tool post is essential for achieving accurate dimensions, excellent surface finish, and minimizing vibration during machining.
The tool post is mounted directly to the cross slide (or compound slide, depending on the lathe design). A central mounting stud passes through the tool post and is secured with a heavy nut or locking handle. This arrangement allows the tool post to rotate when loosened so the cutting tool can be positioned at the desired angle. Once correctly aligned, the locking nut is tightened, clamping the tool post firmly to the slide.
The cutting tools are then attached to the tool post in one of several ways:
Traditional four-way tool post: Square tool holders are clamped directly into one of four stations using locking screws. The entire tool post is rotated to select a different tool.
Quick-Change Tool Post (QCTP): Individual tool holders slide or dovetail onto the tool post and lock in place with a lever or cam mechanism. Each holder can be preset to the correct cutting height, allowing tools to be changed in seconds without losing alignment.
Specialized holders: Boring bars, parting tools, knurling tools, and threading tools each have dedicated holders that fit the same quick-change system.
A Quick-Change Tool Post is generally considered one of the best upgrades for any manual lathe. It dramatically reduces setup time, improves repeatability, and makes switching between turning, facing, threading, boring, and parting operations fast and convenient. For professional users and serious hobbyists alike, it is one of the most valuable accessories available for a precision lathe.
Today we received a new shipment of Multi-Suisse Toolholders made by SRW-Amestra GMBH (Germany). We ordered size Aa and size A. Both sizes are the most frequently used on bench top lathes. Wabeco D4000 uses size Aa, Wabeco D6000 uses size A.
Very good quality of products.Package is excellent, no damage during transportation. And it took only 5 days from order placed to delivered by UPS from Germany!!! Truly remarkable!
We decided to post size Aa photos and compare it to the asian clone. SRW-Amestra tool post is on the left, asian clone - on the right. Please pay attention to the video and make your own judgement. Your opinion is always welcome. Orders are open, feel free to contact us at our website. Thanks!

The Metalworking Bug: How to Choose Your First Lathe
Almost every machinist can tell you exactly how it started.
For some, it was watching a grandfather repair farm equipment. For others, it was a high school shop class long forgotten. Maybe a friend showed you a beautifully machined part, or perhaps YouTube suggested a video of someone turning a piece of steel into a precision instrument. Before long, you found yourself watching "just one more video" late into the night.
The metalworking bug had bitten.
The next step is almost always the same.
You find a small project around the house—a broken k**b, a worn bushing, a custom spacer that no one sells anymore. Then comes a restoration project. Maybe an old engine. Maybe a motorcycle. Perhaps a vintage machine that deserves a second life.
Before you realize it, you're asking yourself the inevitable question:
I think I need a lathe
The Problem Every Beginner Faces
There is just one problem...
Your machining experience is close to zero.
Should you enroll in a machining program?
That would certainly be ideal, but most of us have jobs, families, businesses, and very limited free time. Spending two years in technical school simply isn't practical.
Fortunately, today's world offers another classroom.
Thousands of experienced machinists generously share their knowledge on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube every day. Complete beginners can now learn turning, threading, facing, boring, precision measurement, tool grinding, and setup techniques from some of the world's finest craftsmen—all from home.
But learning is only half of the equation.
Eventually you still need a machine.
Option 1: Buy an Old Used Lathe
Many beginners start searching classified ads.
A used industrial machine often looks attractive because it appears inexpensive.
Unfortunately, appearances can be deceiving.
Questions immediately arise:
* Has the bed worn unevenly?
* Is the spindle still accurate?
* Are replacement parts available?
* Has someone modified or abused the machine?
* Will it cut accurately or constantly fight you?
Experienced machinists can evaluate these questions.
Beginners usually cannot.
Instead of learning machining, they often spend months learning machine repair.
Option 2: Buy an Inexpensive Imported Lathe
The second option is a new budget machine.
These machines certainly have their place and have introduced many people to machining.
However, lower purchase prices are frequently achieved through compromises:
* Lower-grade castings
* Less careful machining and fitting
* Reduced quality bearings and components
* More backlash
* Greater need for adjustment and tuning
* Variable quality control
Many owners eventually spend considerable time scraping, adjusting, replacing gears, upgrading motors, changing bearings, and improving overall performance.
Some enjoy this process.
Others simply want to make chips.
Option 3: Start with Quality
There is another philosophy.
Buy the best machine you can reasonably afford.
Think of it this way.
A fine mechanical watch costs more than a disposable digital watch because it delivers precision, craftsmanship, reliability, and satisfaction for decades.
Machine tools are no different.
When your machine is accurate, rigid, and dependable, every hour in the workshop becomes more enjoyable.
Instead of wondering whether the machine caused the error, you can concentrate on developing your own skills.
Enter Wabeco World
For those looking to invest in quality from the very beginning, Wabeco represents an outstanding alternative.
Unlike many manufacturers that have moved production overseas, Wabeco continues to manufacture its precision bench lathes and milling machines entirely in Germany.
Their machines are designed for professionals, educational institutions, laboratories, prototype development, and serious hobbyists who value precision and long-term reliability.
Wabeco D4000
The Wabeco D4000 is an excellent first precision lathe.
It offers the accuracy and build quality expected from German engineering while remaining compact enough for the home workshop.
Whether your goal is model engineering, instrument making, gunsmithing, restoration, or prototype work, the D4000 provides a professional foundation that can serve for decades.
Wabeco D6000
Need additional capacity?
The **Wabeco D6000** offers a larger work envelope, greater versatility, and increased capability while maintaining the same precision manufacturing standards.
For many enthusiasts, it is a machine they will never outgrow.
Your Skills Will Grow—Your Machine Shouldn't Hold You Back
Every machinist starts as a beginner.
The difference is that some spend years fighting worn-out equipment or correcting machine inaccuracies.
Others spend those same years improving their skills.
A precision machine won't instantly make you an expert.
But it will give you confidence that when something isn't perfect, it's probably your technique—not the machine.
And that's one of the fastest ways to learn.
Your first lathe is more than a purchase.
It's an investment in a lifelong craft.
