📣 Bald eagles are one of Indiana’s greatest wildlife success stories. In the 1980s, the species had disappeared as a nesting bird in the state, prompting the Indiana Department of Natural Resources to reintroduce 73 young eagles. At the time, bald eagles were listed as endangered and their future in Indiana was uncertain.

Today, that effort has paid off in a big way. Indiana is now home to more than 350 nesting territories, with eagles found from the Ohio River to Lake Michigan and nearly everywhere in between. Thanks to conservation efforts, cleaner waterways, and protected habitat, bald eagles have made a remarkable comeback and are now a common sight soaring over lakes, rivers, and reservoirs across the Hoosier State. 🦅

Note that there are likely more nesting territories that are not listed as this data is a few years old now from the DNR. Also note that nesting territories do not reflect individual nests.

With chances for severe weather in Indiana tomorrow, now is a good time to prepare before storms arrive. ⛈️

The hours and days after a damaging storm can feel overwhelming, especially when families and communities are dealing with downed limbs, flooding concerns, power outages, and cleanup decisions.

A few things to keep in mind before and after severe weather:

• Secure loose outdoor items, including patio furniture, toys, trash bins, and lawn décor.
• Stay away from downed power lines and large broken or hanging tree limbs.
• Be cautious with cleanup. Some jobs are better left to trained professionals.
• Use extra care around flooded areas and never drive through standing water.
• Check food safety after power outages. When in doubt, throw it out.
• Check in on neighbors, especially older adults or anyone who may need extra help.

Dragonflies do not hunt like tiny helicopters.

They fly like the answer has already been calculated.

The wild part is how little guessing is involved.

A dragonfly locks onto one mosquito, separates it from the background clutter, and adjusts its body so the target barely seems to move in its vision.

While the mosquito thinks it is escaping, the dragonfly is solving the meeting point.

Its head swivels, its wings move independently, and its legs swing forward like a basket at the final instant. No dramatic chase scene needed.

That is why their success rate feels almost unfair.

They are not reacting to dinner. They are arriving where dinner is about to make a terrible mistake.

Long before humans built guidance systems, nature had already tested one over ponds.

The fighter jet came later.
