Rhode Islanders just received another reminder that the cost of living in our state continues to move in the wrong direction.
A new RIPEC report found that property taxes increased by $98.3 million statewide this year, the largest increase in a decade. Rhode Island already ranks among the highest property-taxed states in the nation, yet taxpayers are being asked to shoulder even more of the burden.
For homeowners, this means higher bills. For landlords, it means higher costs. For renters, it means higher rents. For small businesses, it means fewer resources to grow, hire, and invest in our communities. RIPEC also found that many communities are shifting a larger share of the tax burden onto businesses and rental properties, making Rhode Island even less affordable for working families.
Year after year, we hear promises about affordability, yet taxes, housing costs, utility bills, insurance premiums, and the overall cost of doing business continue to rise. Families are working harder and paying more while government spending keeps growing.
The answer isn't bigger government. The answer is better government.
As a husband and father of two, living in a family of four on a single income, I understand what it means to sit at the kitchen table and make difficult budgeting decisions. Like many Rhode Islanders, I've felt the impact of rising property taxes, higher utility bills, increasing grocery costs, and the constant pressure that inflation places on working families.
That real-world experience matters.
Too often, decisions at the State House are driven by ideology rather than the realities facing the people who pay the bills every month. Rhode Island needs leaders who understand the challenges families face because they're living them too.
If elected to the Rhode Island Senate, I will be a voice of reason, accountability, and common sense. I will ask tough questions, challenge unnecessary spending, and fight for policies that make Rhode Island more affordable for the people who live and work here.
The status quo isn't working. If you want a different direction for Rhode Island, I respectfully ask for your vote for Senate District 38.
Together, we can bring real-world experience back to the State House and build a more affordable future for Rhode Island.
