Educational - We have funded subscriptions to MUMS Newsletter, Palaestra and Cerebral Palsy magazine reaching hundreds of Illinois’ families touched by a brain injury. These resources offer invaluable information and provide a networking system that helps to locate others who have similar conditions. We also offer advocate services to those who need support. Recreational - MIP Pool Pals began in 2002. With the help of our volunteers, children with brain injuries and other special needs reap the benefits of aquatherapy while splashing around and having fun with their families and friends. Also, we are proud to be a partner in the first boundless playground which is fully accessible to all and is the first to open to the public in the Chicagoland area. Additionally, we offer scholarships for many different recreational programs. Alternative Medical - MIP never stops looking for new ways to help! We have granted scholarships for suit therapy, hyperbaric oxygen therapy and most recently, we have granted several scholarships for special needs yoga. “Yoga for the Special Child ” is a program which includes balanced yoga poses to increase body awareness, strength, flexibility, improved breathing, relaxation and concentration in children with brain injury. Support MIP supports Sibshops which provides an opportunity for siblings of those with special needs peer support and education within a recreational context. Sibshops focus on the siblings since they are the family members most likely to have the longest-lasting relationship with the person with special needs.
