Today, we commemorate Juneteenth, a day that marks the end of slavery in the United States and celebrates freedom, resilience, and the enduring pursuit of equality. As we reflect on our nationโ€™s history, we also recognize the importance of continuing to build stronger communities rooted in opportunity, respect, and justice for all.

Happy Juneteenth.

Congratulations to Alexa and Sylvie! Both of them have put in over 200 hours to the Ms President US program and have mentored younger girls in leadership, public speaking, and civic engagement. They help make this fantastic program work!

Today, we remember the brave American and Allied servicemen who landed on the beaches of Normandy on D-Day and helped change the course of World War II. Their courage, sacrifice, and commitment to freedom will never be forgotten. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

It was great to welcome students alongside State Representative Chris Aniskovich from Daisy Ingraham Elementary School to the State Capitol yesterday for a tour of the Legislative Office Building and Capitol Complex. I always enjoy seeing young students engage in civic education and learn firsthand how their state government works. I hope the students had a fun and memorable visit, and I appreciate the teachers, and staff who made the trip to Hartford.

Today marks Sine Die at the Connecticut General Assembly, the final day of the 2026 legislative session. We have worked through a tremendous number of bills this session, and today is no exception as lawmakers continue debating legislation until adjournment at midnight tonight.

As I retire from the legislature, it has been an incredible honor to represent the residents of Westbrook, Lyme, Old Lyme, and my hometown of Old Saybrook throughout the past 12 years at the State Capitol. Thank you for the continued opportunity to serve our communities and be your voice in Hartford.

The House passed An Act Concerning Oversight of Efforts to Prevent Human Trafficking. This legislation came through the Government Oversight Committee, on which I am Ranking Member, and is the product of powerful testimony and bipartisanship.

This legislation:

๐Ÿ”ต Expands state training on human trafficking laws and improves awareness

๐Ÿ”ต Increases security for children who are victims of human trafficking

๐Ÿ”ต Requires the Department of Corrections to review proposals for a confidential crisis hotline for victims of sexual violence at York Correctional Instutition

I was proud to work on this bill and co-sponsor it.

Yesterday was another busy day of legislative business at the State Capitol, with lawmakers debating and acting on a wide range of bills impacting communities across Connecticut.

It was Southeastern Connecticut Day at the Capitol, bringing together organizations, businesses, and representatives from across our coastline communities. It was especially great to see the Florence Griswold Museum from Old Lyme highlighting the important cultural and historical contributions they bring to our region. I also had an opportunity to visit with General Dynamics Electric Boat who provides tons of jobs and more coming to so many in our region.

The Connecticut Auto Retailers were also at the Capitol, and I had the chance to talk with Hayden Reynolds of Reynolds Subaru about issues affecting the auto industry.

Adding to the excitement of the day, the Connecticut Humane Society visited the Capitol with some cute puppies that brought plenty of smiles to everyone ahead of a long week of session.
