Hey folks. Busy ole couple of days here at Kiwi Roots. Finally got our Ginger in! Our seed was late this year which has set us back, but we should still get a good yield all going well. Zucchini is picking up and lot’s of Snap Peas filling out with help from this beautiful, much needed rain! Look forward to another week at the Stand with lot’s of fresh available all grown right here at Kiwi Roots Farm. Cheers Dan

Good morning folks. Has been a nice past couple of days, with very reasonable temps out there! Busy ole week on our closed days at Kiwi Roots but feeling good about what I got done.
Unfortunately, we are out of stock on Carrots. There was a Carrot frenzy at the Stand last week and we sold out of our first planting already. Admittedly, I had a tough time with our Spring Carrot plantings this year, with poor germination being the main culprit. So, what that means is we will have Carrots in and out of stock depending on how the timing lands for the next bed to mature. It is what it is and hopefully we will have a strong Fall Carrot planting to make up for it.
Other crops coming in this week are pointed Cabbage and we have some Escarole for the first time! There is also some additional herbs now available like Thyme, Mint, Sage and Oregano. Our Snaps Peas are very close as well as Zucchini and some of those first harvests may land over the weekend. It will probably be the last week for Spring Bok Choy and Spinach. Arugula is back for a short period of time and then that will be it until the Fall, but we will offer the Micro version of Arugula for those interested.
Have a great wrap up to the week and look forward to seeing you at the Stand. Cheers D&K

Morning folks. Another week underway and boy does time fly while growing veggies 😜 I really enjoy this time of year (if squitos aren’t eating me up) the sunsets are soo good here on the shoreline. The evenings lately have been perfect temp to tuck in new seedlings, which is a weekly ritual throughout the growing season. Believe it or not and I feel like I say this every year but Fall planting is getting super close! I am currently refining my plan with hopes to add a few Fall goodies that we haven’t had before. Other than that, stringing up Snap Peas, trellising Peppers, Eggplants and Tomatoes is well underway and before too long we will be enjoying the sweet taste of summer. This week we might have our first pointed cabbage at the stand and possibly a wee few Zucchini if they get there.. That’s it for now. I hope everyone has a great remainder of the week. Cheers Dan

Howdy folks. Been a busy ole time here at Kiwi Roots. Spring is full of constant planting either direct seeding or transplanting and seeding successions each week in the nursery to keep it all going. Each week more and more crops are ready to harvest and believe it or not some of our beds are already on their second crop this season! Almost all of our summer crops are in, so get ready for the bounty coming to the Stand before we know it. With crops thriving so are the w**ds 🤪 I try to lessen the burden by utilizing crimped cover crop as a mulch, w**d fabric and running down my rows with a wire w**der while w**ds are young on a hot day. All these methods help keep the w**ds in mostly in check 🙃 Other than that, we are loving seeing you all , new and old at the Stand each week. Happy hump day and hope to see you at the Stand this week. Cheers Dan

Winter Rye is about ready to crimp. Will post some pictures of this process as I have in the past but essentially we flatten (crimp) the rye then will tarp it to kill any sneaky w**ds then this will become Winter Squash with our own home grown mulch ground cover.

Doesn’t look like much now but it will be bursting with fresh herbs before we know it! I have always wanted a covered herb tunnel for certain herbs and I finally went for it. This should give me a much better outcome which of course will benefit our customers :) Hope everyone is having a good week thus far. Cheers Dan
