“don’t let yourself become so concerned with raising a good kid that you forget you already have one” -Glennon Doyle
yesterday it struck me. they’ve grown so much in this last year.. in all the ways.
I’m often contemplating with other parents.. what our children must be thinking about these times we’re living in.
so much disruption to their normal rhythms..
so much stress they’re attempting to understand..
and yet, with all the worry parents are holding - about how we can possibly keep from “screwing them up,” I personally think it’s important to trust in their innate wholeness.
and remember that they’re just little humans, like us.
so maybe our job isn’t so much to “raise them right,” as it is to validate the essence of who and where they are.
by attempting to empathize with their exhaustion .. when they lash out in ways that don’t make sense.
by offering options, and a sense of autonomy .. when they’ve reached their breaking point with what’s not allowed.
by trying to be parents who model imperfection .. giving them space to know it’s human to fall short.
but mostly by attempting to treat them how we’d want to be treated..
letting them feel ALL OF IT - just like we’ve been so hungry to do ourselves ✨
