The world's most beloved sporting event starts today (not talking about Knicks v Spurs)! North American host cities have the fever... but so does our climate—and some think this could be the last World Cup to be played under the summer sun.
Most dangerous World Cup ever? Climate change poses growing risks for players FIFA is well aware that extreme heat and humidity could affect the 2026 World Cup, and that's why this might be the final World Cup to be played in the summer.

Washington's Clean Fuel Standard is turning out to be the little engine that could! In 2024 alone, the CFS reduced climate pollution by 3 million tons and generated over $67 million for clean fuels innovation and community investments. That's three times the pollution reduction required by law—and the equivalent of taking about 10% of the state's gas-powered cars off the road for a whole year. Washington leads on climate!
ICYMI: Clean fuels report card is A+++ | Climate Solutions Turns out clean fuels work for cleaner air and healthier communities.
Sometimes it’s good to step back and remember: the Pacific Northwest is home to some of the nation's strongest climate protections, and support for a just transition to clean energy . We are fighting for people and the planet, and showing what’s possible.
Thank you Wawa Gatheru for invigorating the room at our annual Climate Solutions dinner earlier this month.
There is nothing we can’t achieve. 🌟

Strong energy codes are a win-win for climate and affordability. But the fossil fuel industry and its allies have been doing everything they can to fight progress–suing the Washington State Building Code Council, pushing misleading ballot measures on voters and absurd bills in the legislature– trying to decimate energy efficiency.
But we’re still progressing towards 🚫 NO new buildings powered by fossil fuels by 2031.
🏢 🏘️ Modern, efficient buildings powered by clean electricity instead of methane gas means less energy waste, saving money on electric bills and reduced strain on the energy grid.
More on these code updates in our latest blog
What’s wrong with Washington’s energy codes? I’m so glad you asked! | Climate Solutions Campaign redux! Updating our energy codes (again) is crucial for our climate, because the energy we use to heat and cool our buildings is the fastest-growing source of climate pollution in Washington.

The Washington State Department of Transportation is introducing a new $112 million program to help businesses and fleet operators transition to cleaner vehicles. As of April, eligible customers can request vouchers through the Washington Zero-Emission Incentive Program, or WAZIP to help purchase zero-emission trucks and equipment.
A total of $112 million in incentives will be available through the state’s Climate Commitment Act. These incentives lower upfront purchase prices and allow buyers to save even more through lower ongoing operating costs. The amount of the vouchers varies, based on the type of equipment purchased. Small businesses are eligible for enhanced incentives.
