๐ŸŽ‰ Big news for Washington State! ๐ŸŒŸ Our next State Poet Laureate is celebrated poet and professor, Derek Sheffield. Derek will be taking over the role from current Laureate Arianne True. Hailing from the Wenatchee Valley, Derek has spent years inspiring students as a Professor of English at Wenatchee Valley College and has published several poetry collections. His work has earned him fellowships from the Sustainable Arts Foundation, Artist Trust, and the Bernheim Arboretum.

When he's not crafting poems, Derek is teaching his beloved Northwest Nature Writing class, where he has shared his passion for the outdoors with students for the past 20 years. Congrats, Derek! We can't wait to see whatโ€™s next in your journey as Washington's eighth State Poet Laureate.

Come join us at the Music and Art Center (MAC)'s Grove Recital Hall to celebrate Derek Sheffield's term as the next Washington State Poet Laureate. Youโ€™ll hear from past Laureates and Derek himself as he kicks off his two-year term.
