Contemporary interiors and addition in a Victorian

In collaboration

Sometimes traditional architecture can be infused with uber contemporary interiors and other times there is a middle ground.

We find that Scandinavian lines complement traditional details wonderfully.
The crafted details in the woodwork and tactile nature of the materials become a great pairing and pay homage to the era of the home. We try not to be heavy handed and work towards creating moments in sight lines that one experiences daily.

What does your eye skim over when looking outside?

Only completely obsessed with architecture everywhere I go.

Images from our once in a lifetime trip to Africa last summer.

This hotel built into the rocks in the 70s has aged beautifully. A testament to the use of natural materials - now with an authentic patina. Surrounded by the Serengeti - one feels not just immersed but you feel like you belong as the zebras and giraffes watch you

What a ride! Thank you House & Garden South Africa for showcasing our work on your House Tours. šŸ™šŸ¼

ā€œthe interiors were conceived to support the rhythms of everyday life rather than to perform for visitors. Comfort, flow, and ease were treated as essential, not secondary, to the project’s more curated dimensionsā€

Thank you AD Mexico for featuring this project which was a big step towards incorporating art and sculpture.

ā€œThe artworks are placed with an almost curatorial sensibility: they are given space, deliberately centered, and enjoy moments of stillness thanks to the neutral backgrounds. In this minimalist house , this approach creates what Sashya describes as a ā€œgallery feel,ā€ which determines how each room is perceived.
However, the atmosphere remains deliberately familiar. ā€œAlthough the art is sophisticated and arranged as in a gallery, the works are surrounded by other elements, which foster a sense of familiarity.ā€ Upholstered seating, layered fabrics, and warm wooden surfaces ensure that the art—in keeping with an attitude reminiscent of the Fluxus group—is experienced as part of everyday life, not separate from it. Because this house reveals itself and unveils itself through movement and repetition .
It is designed to inspire without shocking, to delight without creating distance, and is always in dialogue with the life unfolding around it, thanks also to the discreet presence of the artworks that animate it.ā€œ

This project was about leaning into my indian roots for our indian clients while keeping in mind its location. Ground up new construction where we had the pleasure of selecting all the interior finishes and furnishings working closely with the builder.

As the art deco movement is ā€œtrendingā€, I have fond memories of these buildings which made up a large part of my routine during architecture school and while growing up.
Whenever we visited my grandmother, the final turn onto the queens necklace signified the last part of our journey to see her. Her home@situated at the end if the necklace allows you to drive through the entire stretch of almost 35 art deco buildings in varied forms. I’m including a small snapshot of these and a few others that we frequented like the Eros movie theater that are embedded in my memory.

Thank you AD Italia, Asad Syrkett and Sonia Braga.
A big thank you to our clients for the opportunity!

ā€œIn this minimalist home, art is not decoration but language, that transforms every room into a sensorial landscape.ā€
